Alan Burgess is a retired United States Air Force Medical Service Corps officer. He lived in the Philippines for a year, in Turkey for two years, and in Germany for three years. He has traveled extensively throughout the rest of the world as well as in all fifty U.S. states. This gives him a terrific frame of reference from which to evaluate the food and restaurants he rates. He does not use tobacco or alcohol so he doesn't desensitize his palate as the meal progresses, usually preferring to drink water with his meals. He also refrains from coffee or tea. He has a very sensitive and discriminating palate, but LOVES it hot and spicy as well. He enjoys cooking and baking, so when he goes out to eat, he is usually looking for a culinary treat. He makes his own marinara sauces from scratch, and makes his own pastas and presto, so he rarely eats out in Italian Restaurants. He likes a variety of foods, as demonstrated by his ample waist size, but usually eschews desserts.

The food was okay, but not spectacular. service was a little slow and not very attentive. It is really an old fashioned road-side diner (a little too far from the road side, but well hyped by the traditional road side signs). With 2 stars meaning poo ... more
Casa Rio San Antonio, TX
An average place for Tex Mex along the Riverwalk. Beautiful views, friendly and prompt service, but the food is only so-so and the prices may be reasonable for the Riverwalk, but are high for the food served. I ordered the Tortilla soup (4.50) and it ... more

Arceo's Family Mexican Restaruant Baker City, OR
A wonderful and unassuming diner, close to I-84. The dining room appears to be two old diner cars appended to an existing building. The waitstaff were extremely friendly and attentive. The menu is remarkably diverse, yet Mexican. I ordered the Tres A ... more
