I ma an employee at blacks oyster bar after reading the review from mike,
i was really dissapointed. The staff is trying our best to keep blcks
original, and at the time you had come eat we probeby were to busy the
month before, we may not have had time to cut the trees, but now they are.
Another thing the oysters at blacks are not preshucked they are shucking
the oyster as you are ordering them and if you would like to watch them
feel free to go ahead, we have a section for that located in the bar. The
new owners and new staff are trying the best they can to keep Blacks the
success that it is know as. We not only have delicious food and a great
atmosphere we also have wonderful new ideas comming your way, so the
next time you all are in town stop by!!!!!! thank you

Following up the last post: I revisited Black's April 15, 2006.
For a start, the place was almost deserted Saturday lunch, whereas
in years gone by it was bustling with a good mix of locals and tourists.
I am really sad to say the downhill trend has continued. Visiting Black's
was rather like seeing a good friend of many years on the skids with some
undiagnosed disease or something.
For a start, they have let the greenery in the windows grow out of control,
obscuring the windows completely. This is obviously thought by the
people in charge to be kind of neat, but I must tell them it is quite NOT
neat, and creepy besides, no pun intended. The vegetation seems to
suggest a restaurant once great, now overgrown like the garden of the
House of Usher. Unfortunately, that metaphor is accurate, but obviously
not what they want to truly encourage business.
The oysters were still OK (although pre-shucked: you can tell from
the speed with which they appear, and their ...

Prior to my last visit I have nothing but positive things to say about
Black's. My best oyster experiences ever have been here when they
are on top form. Their gumbo: SUPERB!!!!!
But last time I visited (about 1 year ago) the owner had left. He used
to be the sort of owner who silently prowled the premises making sure
all ran smoothly. Without him, things had (on that one visit) gone awry.
25 minutes and not even a glass of water was brought to us.
The food was still good, but one of the servers had gumbo stains all down
his white overall which looked absolutely terrible. He showed no sign
that he was going to change it either. YUCKO.
I would be interested to hear if things have continued downhill, or
righted themselves. I will be going back soon and will report.

This is one of those places I could eat my last meal at. Blacks has
the best Oysters - PERIOD. Best I've ever had in a resturant.
And the fried seafood is plentiful ans delicious! With seafood
this good you don't bother to ask about sevice but it's
first rate too! If you are in South Louisiana anywhere near Abbeville,
Blacks is certainly worth the drive! And sometimes even when
you are not over this way! The BEST!

If you are an oyster lover, this is the place to go. A dozen beautiful
bi-valves on the half shell on a bed of ice, well it doesn't get
much better for under $5.00! Follow that with a fried oyster or
shrimp po-boy and you can feel those city-tensions just running
away. Staff is friendly, atmosphere is great, service is fast
and efficient and the oysters to die for!

Eat where the locals eat. Great for real Cajun fried seafood
entrees. The seafood gumbo is like Maw Maw's (5.95) and Fried Shrimp or Fried
Catfish Poboys stuff you (about 4.95). The place for oysters on the half shell
and cold beer.
