Absolutely the best thick pizza you can have. There is none better in
the state and I have tried them all. Just make sure to order in advance,
especially on Illini Football Game days as it can take up to 2 hours to
get a yummy pie.

The average entree is a large (not party-size) deep dish pizza
--- for carry-out! ---
Warning: for the rest of your life, no conventional pizza is ever going
to live up to this peak experience. This rave is not simply "alma
mater nostalgia" talking - I first tasted this at age 32, I'm
now 50 and have yet to taste a more satisfying pizza.
The front room at Pops' is quieter and even pleasant during off-hours,
but figure on carry-out to save your ears for loud rock-n-roll.
Make them let you wrap up some grated parmesean to go, too.
On occasion Papa Dels have been able to top themselves in the form of
a personal stuffed pizza with spinach and garlic, but start with the
more reliable basics...

I know from the other reviews and from my friend that recommended this
place: their signature menu item is deep dish pizza. However, I prefer
thin crust pizza as did my colleage when we stopped here for lunch yesterday.
So, while I can't add anything about their deep dish, I can say this:
their THIN CRUST PIZZA is EXCELLENT.
When you order sausage on your pizza here, you get sausage - a lot of sausage.
Some of the pieces nearly as big as meat balls. And good tasting sausage
too!
And another thing: they served the pizza HOT, which is the ONLY WAY that
pizza should be served. (Yeah, I know that there are people that will
eat pizza even when it is cold. I don't know what to say about such
individuals; I just hope they don't reproduce.)
My only negative comment: the floor, walls and ceilings are all hard
surfaces creating an acoustically "live" environment
which leads to a very noisy atmosphere when there are more than a handful
of diners there.

This is the best pizza I have eaten anywhere in the United States.
The deep dish pizza, extra cheese, is excellent! They also have
frozen pizza available for carry out and cooking at home. Many
Univ. of Illinois students drive back to Chicago with multiple
pizzas to get them through the holidays. Five stars!

The wait is long for the deep dish pizzas, but it's worth it.
Go to any deep dish pizza establishment in Chicago, and the wait
is the same. In fact, Papa Dells has a unique recipe, where the
some of Chicago establishments copy each other. They also use
high quality, fresh ingredients. The cheese blend and their
sausage is as good as it gets. Papa Dells is real treat, and not
for those with a small stomach. Best deep dish in downstate Illinois,
hands down. Service can be hit or miss at times. I prefer to order
and pick it up. Pizza is five stars, service is 3. Thus a 4

The pizza wasn't bad. The wait was long. There are better
pizza joints nearby. I don't think i will go back.

By far the best deep dish and stuffed pizza in central Illinois.
Phone the order in ahead as it takes about 45 minutes for a stuffed
pizza.
