It's worth a 5-minute trip to gawk at the expensive, trashy
decor, but the food? No. The service, when we finally got it, was
awful. Our food was prepared incorrectly, and the waitstaff
resented the fact we mentioned there was a problem. SLO has plenty
of good restaurants; this just doesn't happen to be one of
them.

I think that the decorations were funny... But the food lacks
everything.. It was horrible and the bathrooms were dirty. The
men pee on the floor.

I love the Gawdy decor. The food's good too. Maybe the people giving
it a bad review are snobish and don't like the gawdy, tacky, over
the top decor. Maybe that's whats turning them off. It looks like
someones old demented grandmother decorated this place.
My 1st time was on my birthday 3 years ago. I had steak and lobster
and was very happy with it. When ever I travel through, I always
drop by for a little something and to pick up an ugly looking colored
goblet from their gift shop. They have many differant colors
and a wine glass size and a water glass size.
We used to laugh about how ugly they are. Now we're collecting
them.
If you want something differant and aren't to snobbie, its worth
a try.

Hey, this place is nothing more than a fancy coffee shop wrapped
in an interesting building. Lots of deco here, so go and have some
fun. I like to stop for breakfast, as it is usually pretty quiet.
The food is just fine here, don't expect to be blown away by it.
This place has been in business for years and still has it's charm.
Give the Madonna Inn a try and who knows, you too might come to like
the building, too...

OK, OK . . . I was "refered" to this awful restaurant by 3 co-workers
and the San Luis Obispo Tourist Information. The decor was indeed
over the top and downright gaudy! The menu claims that their steaks
are "world's best". So, my husband ordered the filet mignon which
was considered their most popular and I ordered the New York steak.
After an hour, our entrees came out. I requested medium rare,
but I received a well-done. My husband's filet was dry (presumably
sitting under a heat lamp). It was so awful, we skipped dessert
and the infamous bathroom. So, to sum this up in a nutshell . . .
food, service, and price were all disappointing. This is the
last time I will take "referrals" from co-workers who, obviously,
lack legitimate food buds and class.

MY EXPERIENCE AT THE MADONNA WAS VERY ENJOYABLE. I WENT THERE
FOR DINNER WITH MY HUSBAND AND HAD A TOP SIRLOIN WHICH WAS VERY
GOOD. IT WAS COOKED THE WAY I ASKED FOR IT. THE PORTION WAS BIGGER
THAN I EXPECTED. I REALLY LIKED THE HOUSE DRESSING ON THE SALAD.
ON ANOTHER OCASSION MY HUSBAND AND I ATE AT THE CAFE AT THE SAME
LOCATION. THE TABLE IS SENT WITH CRYSTAL GLASSES AND LOOKS VERY
ELEGANT. WE HAD A TURKEY SANDWICH AND IT WAS I BELIEVE $7.95. IT
WAS ALSO VERY GOOD. I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST IF YOU ARE EVER IN THIS
AREA OR PASSING THROUGH TO STOP AND EXPERIENCE THE FINE DINING.

The only thing that is good about this place is the waterfall in
the mens bathroom. Other than that, go someplace else.

Bernard's review below hits the nail on the head - that guy should
have his own restaurant review column. As for the other reviewers,
I don't know what they ate but they obviously did not have the steak.
Absolutely delicious! And the atmosphere is one of a kind. A throwback
to the Ol' West.

k, am i totally nuts? everyone else gives this restaurant 1 star,
but i want to give it a high 3 stars. yes, the deco is very,
very classy, but the food also isn't too bad. it's a nice place for a
big dinner, such as a post graduation dinner or a birthday
party. their specialty is their steak. it's a meat restaurant.
it's not cheap; that's 4 sure. if you try to be vegetarian
there, you'll have to pay $19 for a plate of steamed veggies.i haven't
seen that plate, so maybe it's worth it, but i highly doubt it. anyway,
myself, i had the prime rib. it was a little dry, but it was a nice,
thick slice. nowadays, i'd prefer a thinner cut, something like
house of prime rib's english style cut. i don't mind eating a big
quantity of meat once in a while, but i'd like it to be more thinly
cut. do you understand? anyway, it was a pretty good meal and a pretty
pleasant dining experience all together for me. sevice was okay, pretty
polite. well, i liked the restaurant, b ...
