I've been eating at the Tip Top Cafe since I was a little girl. My brother and I would look forward to eating out with my parents and couldn't wait to sink our teeth into those delicious onion rings and chicken fried steaks! There's no other like it in San Antonio!! We always said we'd try something different on the menu; but just can't break away from "the usual" Chicken Fried Steak and an order of Onion Rings please!

Came from Dallas and had not eaten here in 45 years but found it to be just as good as I remembered. The onion ring order was big enough to share with two others and the shrimp (five to an order) are as big as your palm and fresh. The chicken fried steak is legendary and the banana ice box pie is the best since The NightHawk went out of business. If you have lived in San Antonio all your life and never been here, shame on you!

overall the whole experience was a joke. We were seated and not helped for 20 min, then the waitress came over for our drink order and took another 10 min. My entree was hot but my sides were cold and the ice tea was very watered down.

The place smelled like they had just sprayed for bugs. Also, the service was terrible, sat there without tea for ten minuts, till I found a pitcher and refilled my own glass. Food was ok, but not worth the trouble.

Best Onion Rings in town. Chicken Fried steak is great. Chicken and Dumplings are fantastic if you catch the day they are available. They close at 8, so come early. You may have to wait since they are so popular and have been around for a quite a while. Seems like the staff has been there forever too.

This is the place for chicken fried steak ! Best in San Antonio bar none. Service is always good . Has that small town feel and flavor.Be prepared to wait for a table, but its worth it.

Fantastic onion rings for appetizers. They have the best chicken fried steak EVER. I have been going there for 30 years and have never had a bad experience. Great pie for dessert. Usually kind of crowded.

Good lunch specials under $5.00. Onion rings are great. Good american food. Nice proffesional staff. When ever I miss some good old home cooking I go here.
