Although the menu offers "maple syrup" with breakfast items like French toast and pancakes, the actual syrup served is tasteless and insipid. I asked to see the container, and the only flavor indicated was "artificial flavor." Shouldn't advertised maple syrup contain at least a modicum of real maple? When I complained, I was told that other customers agreed and some even brought their own syrup! Given the quality of the other food served at Monty's, it's ridiculous that something of this low quality is provided to customers.

Possibly the best casual diner in the midwest. Monty's will accomodate everyone in your party from the hardcore carnivore to the prissy salad followed two slices of pie eating waif. Vegetarian no problem, hungry as hell and need alot of food, no problem ! Monty's will give you more than monies worth. Try the daily specials for a real treat and don't pass up on the award winning desserts. Even if i am just coming from a fancy seafood restaurant downtown, i'll stop at Monty's for dessert. The great food, selection and friendly staff make this a madison favorite !

This is an upscale diner. It offers a mixture of traditional diner fare along with more unusual options. I had the cajun chicken breast sandwich on a kaiser roll with fries. It was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the spices didn't overpower the taste, even though it was spicy.

The fries were the ordinary kind (they also offer "waffle-cut" fries). They were surprisingly good as well. They were fresh, crunchy, and tasty.

The service was great. That other reviewer must be thinking of a different restaurant. Our waitress did everything right, including refilling our drinks without our having to ask. She also handled some special requests for our food accurately without any trouble.

I highly recommend this place.

I was looking forward to a great diner experience (based on reputation) so took my whole family to share the joy. What a disappointment! The place was messy, the service was rude as well as slow and the food was at best mediocre -- and I'm being kind.

Everything is great at Mont's! The food, the staff, the design. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are wonderful. I've converted many people to The Blue Plate.

This place is rapidly becoming my favorite. It is a great place to take guests. There is something on the menu for any type of palette or appitite. I love the Calico Corn Cakes and the Potato Pie is wonderful. There is a great selection of vegetarian dishes too. Each night there is a pasta special in addition to the other daily specials. Desserts are worth saving space for. The service has been perfect except once. The waiter was having a bad day I guess.

No matter what mood you're in, Monty's has something for you. Of particular note is the "scrambled-something-or-other" which is available every morning. Servered with American fries and a great biscuit, it's a Madison favorite. All of the sandwiches are great--especially accompanied by a shake. Check out Monty's new cookbook and learn the recipes that have made this place an East-side institution
