i'm
giving this restaurant only 3 stars, but i really want
to give it more. it's good, but in comparison to all sorts'a
chinese restaurants that have popped up in the last few yrs in
the silicon valley, it's only so.so. but it's definitely
1 of the best in that particular neighbourhood of san jo, that
area by monterey hwy.
back in the day, in the 80s, this was the premier chinese restaurant
that chinese.american n' taiwanese.american families in the
almaden valley'd go to when they wanted to go out to eat.
it'd be typical to c all sorts'a leland high skool kids n' their
parents there. wasn't that an awkward experience back
in hs n' ms? running into ur classmate w/ ur families present?
u weren't sure how to behave... in the early 80s,
this place was called ocean dragon, n' the hong kong bakery was
nextdoor. the hk bakery is long gone now, n' the mall's
pretty run down. there's the choi's taekwondo masters
dojang there... is that the choi that has "team choi" n' all those
good san josé competitors? i wonder.
neway, it's still a good restaurant. my favourite
thing to order there has been the 8 treasures clay pot.
last time i ordered it, it wasn' it a clay pot, but a steel pot.
it was still good. it's not very expensive either.
it's something they do well, i think. uhm... it's
not called 8 treasures clay pot in english, it sez something like
"combination bean curd clay pot." uh... "bean curd, "
huh? why don't ppl just call it "tofu." it's a pretty
well accepted term now that we're in the 21st century in america.
if u r an english speaking american n' don't know what "tofu"
is, u don't really speak english. sorry, dude...
that's just the way it is... some things'll never change.
ok... neway! the walnut prawns r fine here. they're almost
always a crowd pleaser @ ne restaurant... it looks like u hafta
be a very bad cook to make walnut prawns that don't please
ur guests! &nsbp; it's like making mozzarella sticks... the
grease should be satisfying enuf... to some extent. some
places do make really good walnut prawns 2.
the sizzling scallops? eh, so so... scallops w/ string beans
served on that cute, black, cow.shaped , fajita grill plate that
they sometimes use @ korean sootbooljip 4 bulgogi or 4 dwaeji
gui or dalk gui or ojinguh or whatever animal they feel like putting
on a cow.shaped plate!
well, it's a nice place 4 a family dinner... order whatever's
the daily special if u can.
