Krung Thai appears to be a very lavish, fancy place to eat. My wife and I went there for lunch. We were impressed by the decor. The food unfortunately was not very good at all. My wife ordered the barbeque chicken platter. The meat was dry, with not much flavor. Presentation looked nice, but flavor was missing. I had a dish which was basically a chow fun type dish with flat noodles, chinese broccoli, and pork, all covered in a brown gravy. DO NOT order any of the dishes which feature the brown gravy! The gravy is really bad; it smelled spoiled, and had the consistency of, well, mucus. SO bad. The smell actually reminded me of a visit I once made to a farm. Service was slow, although there was a large company gathetering going on. We finished our visit there with the fried bananas, which come drizzled with chocolate sauce and a side of delicious coconut ice cream. The bananas were deep fried in a light batter, and were very good. Crisp shell, with sweet banana of the perfect texture inside. The desert helped to recover the loss of enthusiasm we had for the meals themselves. All in all, we have had much better Thai food. King of Krung Siam in Mt View is the of the best in the south bay. For Thai "fast food", go to Thai Spoons in Sunnyvale.

So far i think this is the best thai spot in sj i been to. The food is great here. I love there curry, pineapple fried rice, pad thai, and basel chicken. The protions are a bit small like most thai places. but food is great. As for the service. its a bit sketchy. sometimes they don't seem to as friendly. it gets pretty busy in there. and the service seems to want to get you in and out. but other then that its a great place. the newer by valley fair is a bit nicer then the one on moorpark.

Food: Good Price: $8 and above

The reason i give Krung Thai a 1 is because this place has the worse customer service ever. Plus the environment is kinda bad becasue it's always so crowded with people trying harder and harder to out voice other people. It's a never returning place for me and all of my friends. We've had 2 bad experience there. Let's start with the most recent k. 1. I just went there wih my friends 3 days ago. We were the first customers in the morning. The first thing the waitress asked us was "how many people", and we said had 4, and 1 of our friend is coming. So the waitress sat us at a talble for 5. Then later our friend call and couldn't come. I asked the waitress if we should move to the 4 seats table. She said it was fine. And so we went on and ordered our food. We ordered a lot for 4 people because we share everything...BUT, My friend ordered this one bbq rib that comes with rice, we asked the waitress how big is the rice. She said it's gonna be a whole big plastic bowl that we could share and don't have to order the rice separately. We agreed. Later, when all the food came out and except for the rib and we needed rice. We told the waitress to bring out the rice first. Then another waitor brought out the bowl of rice. Then the rib came out with another rice...So i asked, didn't we already took the rice from that order? Then waitor just automatically take the rice in and said he's not gonna charge. OK...Here's THE BOMB.

When the check comes, it was like a hundred something. We were assuming like $80. Then we looked carefully, they charged us 18% gratuity, that's $18 something. I called the waitor over and asked why there's a gratuity. He said because there's 5 people. I then said we only have total 4 people since before we order. He said yeah but "I DIDN"T EVEN CHARGE YOU THE RICE". So I was like wtf to myself, and still smiling and said, well, charge me the rice i don't mind but refund the gratuity because there's only 4 people. Then he said "Once, we put in the computer as 5 people then it's 5 people we can't change it." Then some other old lady/waitress came over and told the waitor to refund it. The waitor refused right away "NO, WE CAN'T". Then the lady took the check and said she'll do it. A minute later she came back and said. "SORRY! I can't do it because they say you came in and said 5 people. We can't do anything about it because the owner isn't here. Come back later and talk to the owner." I said, well by then it's not gonna be easy to talk about. SHe said, "Well, there's nothing i can do." We were mad and told her just go charge it. Whatever.

2. About more than 1/2 a year ago, I went with 2 other friends at noon time. We ate a lot too for just 3 people. It's like we ordered the same favorite dishes over and over despite how many people. Then after that, one of my friend paid with his card. Me and my other gf went to the restroom. The friend paid and waited for us outside. We got in the car, drove out about to turn out to the street. Then a waitor knocked on our window. He asked why my friend didn't put tip. My friend said he forgot.

But think about it...who would run after a customer and ask for tip? It's just not right. Especially when we already left...

I HOPE THAT PLACE GOES OUT OF BUSINESS SOON. THEIR BUSINESS IS JUST MONEY HUNGRY AND UNETHICAL...BUSINESS LIKE THAT WILL BE OUT.

i'm giving this restaurant 4 stars, but i really mean to give it 3. i just need to equalize the irresponsible review by chan down below. you see, here, we're serious restaurant reviewers. we're here to critique the restaurant, critique its food, critique it's ambiance, and yes, critique its service. however, you can't just give this restaurant 1 star over a grudge.
krung thai, year after year after year is san josé's most favourite thai restaurant. the next runner up is that overpriced place downtown where i got creeped out cos some sleazy man was talking to some girl about hiring her to do a porno or something. anyway, yeah, that was nasty to overhear, but that runner up restaurant is still good, just overpriced.
anyway, krung thai #1 & #2 are both good. the food is consistently good. my biggest complaint with this restaurant is that it's too crowded. perhaps they need a krung thai #3. if you don't have a reservation, try to go on an "off" night.
well, krung thai doesn't really feature any extradinarily unique creation but more of your standard, familiar thai cuisine. thus, as i said, i really mean only to give this place 3 stars. however, it _isn't_ meant to be some chez panisse of thai food or anything. perhaps in the past, the restaurant called devanni in the east bay set out to do that, but krung thai just gives your traditional set of thai dishes familiar to the american palate. heh, wow, that sounded like a euphemism, sounded like i'm saying it's americanized thai food. no, i'm not necessarily saying that; but maybe it is... just a little.
it's a good restaurant for a group of friends celebrating a birthday or something as long as they want a more calm dinner and not like a sake bomb party. it's ok for romantic dates but maybe not qutie classy enough for the most romantic of dates. in other words, i personally have never heard of anyone proposing there, but hey! people do different things.
i've been there with little kids, and it's ok for them... just ok.

I've been to a lot of Thai places, but Krung Thai is the one that i keep returning. The food is very tasty, and apprently the service has been improved a lot---all the other reviews complaining about service were about 2 years ago. However, the portion is not very big, and sometimes the curry can be a little to salty. But the BBQ chicken (appetizer) is a must try! The size is plentyful and the texture is so tender! When i first looked at the word BBQ, i thought i might ve a little American-Thai, but surprivingly, it has an authentic Thai flavor!

This restaurant has the MOST HORRIBLE SERVICE. I ate there two weeks ago. We asked the waitress to split the charge between two credit cards. She refused so we asked to speak to the owner since they did it before. The owner told us that her bookkeeper complained about too many credit card slips per table so they won't let us split the charge. We asked the owner if she wanted a happy bookkeeper or happy customers. SHE TOLD US THAT SHE WANTED TO KEEP THE BOOKKEEPER HAPPY AND DID NOT CARE HOW THE CUSTOMER FELT. This is the first time I have heard a restaurant owner say such a thing to the customers. I will never go back there again. PLEASE DON'T SUPPORT THIS RESTAURANT SINCE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS!!!

I took my friends there for lunch on Father's Day. The service was EXTREMELY TERRIBLE. No one gave us water for 20 min. We finally had to ask for it. Then, the waiters kept clearing out the plates and dishes before we even finished eating!! He did not even bother to ask if we were done. When we complained, they didn't apoligize for the bad service. Instead, they told us that it was their job to keep the table clean!! Can't believe this place can stay in business with such terrible service

I love this place. The food is great, lunch is a particularly good deal. It’s usually busy though. Atmosphere is nice, but not spectacular. For the money it’s a good deal.

Since having added a new location, the new location has improved atmosphere. This is simply the best Thai in the South Bay. You will be hard pressed to find a better one in SF. I have not yet found one even close. I have friends from Thailand and this is the only restaurant of which they approved. If you want spicy, they will satisfy. Try the jungle curry and ask for it at the versy spicy level. It will be set on pain. I highly recommend it for spicy afficionados.

Though the food was ok the service was so bad I nor my mother will ever go back. The waitress took our order while looking the other way and saying uh huh uh huh and then of course didn't bring what I asked for. When the waiter came to bring our drinks he practically tossed them on the table and they splattered everywhere and while walking away and not even looking at what he did he says enjoy in this muffled I couldn't give a crap about you voice. After we got the dishes we actually ordered the waitress or waiter never came back to ask how we were or if we needed anything else. And they DON'T SERVE FRIED BANANAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was in total shoke! Never have I been to a Thai restaurant and they haven't had fried bananas! That's one reason I love going out for Thaid food is the sweet treat at the end. The dishes were good, but cettainly NOT THE BEST IN THE AREA by any means.

I really enjoy the food here and have since day one of it's opening. I have to agree with most people here about the service. They could be a bit more friendlier and caring towards their customers, after all we are keeping them in business. My only other complaint is that my boss found hair in his food and almost had to twist the woman's arm to be compensated. I think that should be offered. Not even a "I'm sorry". But I personally haven't had any experience like that and for that reason will continue to eat there. The food is wonderful and tasty.

This is the best Thai restaurant in the South Bay. Me and my husband have been dining here for several years now and we introduce this place to all our friends and family. They opened up a new location last year and it's also on Winchester Blvd, just after Valley Fair Mall. Most evenings the restaurant is crowded so I recommend that you go early, or have someone go first to put your their down. The best thing that they have there is there Sticky Rice and Mango dessert. This is just the most delicious and best dessert that I've ever tasted. The one order is enormous so you can share that with other people. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Like all thai restaurants, KrungThai has done a wonderful job decorating their new restaurant. But I've tasted better thai food, not to mention better prepared food. One time, I was shocked to find a piece of string in my eggroll that was about half a foot long. My appetite was quickly diminished and since the waiter didn't do anything about the situation when I informed him, I left the place and I'm not about to come back.

I have never been disapointed with this restaurant. Both locations seem to serve the same high caliber food. My favorite would have to be the garlic pork.
