Sorry but I really can't agree with the other reviewers. Imo, Der Dutchman is average at best. No matter what time of day or day of the week we go, it is always packed, and there is a lengthy wait. The food is ok (the fried chicken is amazing, I have to say) but definitely not worth the wait. Service is iffy. The best thing about it is the wonderful bakery. The giftshop is just overpriced and gimmicky.

Really good home cooked meals. The nice thing is you can have a "family" dinner where they will bring out all your food to your table in bowls like you do at home and when they are empty you can have them refilled!. The salad bar is real nice almost a meal in itself. You have to have the pies here!

I like this restuarant, but there is something unique about it. It calls to me like a siren's song. About twice a year I've got to get a Der Dutchman fix....no ifs ands or buts about it. Where else can you eat dinner in an Amish buggy or eat a peice of shoo fly pie? If I can't get to Amish country to dine, this place comes close enough.

The place amazes me. How did they get all my grannies recipes? How do they keep it all fresh on the buffet? Why do they make me eat so much! If you haven't eaten here, please do so, if for no other reason than to remember what it was like at a typical family meal 35 years ago.

you will get full here. And after you are done you can rock on a hand made rocker on the porch or grab a horse and buggy ride.

Wonderful for 2 or 22. This is a great family style restaurant. Everything is fresh and flavorful. I dont know of a soul who dosent like it. Gift shop are is HUGE and have items from .50 to 500.00!!! Usually a wait, but hey, go shop!!! Better than Cracker Barrel shopping!!! The homebaked good are out of this world. Bakery can even take orders for your next visit, because sometimes yo go back ad want to pick up a (for instance) raisin creme pie to take home, (which is THE BOMB!!!) and they are out, so call ahead order it for the day you'll be arriving and they will have a fresh one waiting for you!!! I love the Mueslix bread. It is loaded with whole grains. But 3 loaves and freeze it!!! Salad bar is kick butt!!! Try the Peanut Butter Spread---you will love it!!! Very good service!!! I know Big Dan Ward loves this one---they have pancakes...just ask his wife!!!!!(Inside joke folks--sorry)

If you enjoy fresh, home cooked food, Der Dutchmans is a must. This Ahmish restaurant draws quite a crowd and is in a large building made like a country house, complete with wrap around porches and rocking chairs. Expect a wait, because this place is popular, but you can browse through their gift shops where they sell crafts, hand crafted Ahmish furniture, homemade cheese, and much more. Food is served family style and is always fresh, hot and delicious. Try their country fried chicken, and don't leave without having dessert!
