How to order like a regular: Combination Ribs/Chicken, Home fries with Grilled Onions, Tomatoe Garlic Dressing with Crumbled Blue Cheese (or the oil & vinegar slaw), and fresh Rye Bread. --YUM!! Go early on Sundays--they open early, no longer open lunches. Great place for large parties--they have a party room (seats 200) and a second bar in the back. Lots of parking. Great place to go after the horse races. Racehorse photos everywhere. Lots of regulars, very old-school, fun, interesting, legendary!

The ribs are excellent if you go in the first part of the evening. Walt's it open till 2am though, so if you go late you're going to get dry ribs. That would be the same for any restraunt of this type. They prepare their food to serve a dinner crowd. They are only open past dinner time to please gamblers coming back from Turfway park who might want a drink and a BLT. Horses and gambling are very near and dear to the owners heart. It's only fair warning to mention, Bill Milton is getting very senile so meeting him will be kinda like visiting someone at an old folks home. Bottomline, if you go durring dinner time you will get a good meal if you go after then it's going to be hit or miss. The best time to go is between 5-7pm.

I was excited to be invited to dinner at Walt's with my wife's family because I had always wondered about it, but had never had the occasion to try it. To this day, when I think back on horribly failed, disappointing meals, this is one of two that immediately comes to mind. Truly awful in all phases of the operation. Unbelievably indifferent service, bland food and the incredible cackle of the "regulars" made this an experience not to repeat. I swear I don't know what keeps this place open.

Great ribs. Sauce is delicious. Service was just okay. Took a long time to get the order taken and served. Fortunately, we didn't have anyplace to go so there wasn't a ruckus about the poor service.

Walt's Hitching Post is known for their ribs, but their steaks and other entrees are very good, depending on what you're in the mood for. Their house dressing is excellent if you like garlic, because it packs a punch. The ribs are cooked over a wood fire in a specialty smoker and grill built of brick at the far end of the parking lot in front of the restaurant. The first time you go, try the ribs, but the next time, and there will definitely be a next time, try one of the other fine entrees.

I also found the ribs to be dry and had the same experience with the management not being interested in satisfying the customer as they should. Maybe its because they feel there are enough people that don't have previous bad experiences. They have a reputation due to the historical site, but management will see to the other. If you are looking for the best ribs in town, for the same bill, there are better places in the area. PS: Area code is (859)

I was disappointed with the ribs - I heard they were the "best in town" but what I recieved were a small stack of VERY DRY ribs, with mediocre sauce. The sides were good and the service was very good, except for the fact that when we complained about the quality of the ribs, nothing was done by management to correct the problem or make us feel more satisfied with our experience. I would go again, if someone else was buying and I would NOT order the ribs.

THIS PLACE HAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST RIBS IN THE BUSINESS. Hands down. They are grilled outback in a big brick grill. The staff has been around for thirty or more years and is perfect for birthdays and anniversaries.
