The boy named Sue should try eating inside the restaurant instead of the trash bin. I've eaten there dozens of time and at no time did I find the food nasty, cold and without taste. As to the redneck issue, I wonder where you are from. I grew up in that part of the country and I resent your remarks. I'm just like Ole Lyle, I Lovett.

I can't believe that people keep coming back to this hole in the wall , redneck restaurant. The food is nasty, no taste. The food is normally cold when they bring it to the table. They need to have more people cleaning this place, it has improved over the years, new restrooms, but they need to keep up the work. I guess if you are over 60 this is a nice place

Located in the middle of nowhere about 9 miles north of West Jefferson, NC, Shatley Springs Inn is a well known and beloved establishment. Open only early April thru early November, the sprawling, ramshackle building contains shops, and several dining rooms with a 19th century country kitchen atmosphere--long tables and ladderback chairs, families talking, laughing and loving. Across the front is a wide porch--no veranda here--containing antiques and comfortable rocking chairs. Some nights there is music on the porch as well as in the front dining room. You'll need the rockers to sit a spell in the mountain air and digest the wonderful vittles--unless, of course, you happen to have taken a cottage for the weekend. There are three fishing ponds in which you are welcome to try your luck. Situated around the main building are several shops selling crafts and such. But the main attraction is the food--lots of it, all you can eat, served family style in bowls brought to your table by friendly, pleasant, local girls and women. The chicken is probably the best you will have ever tasted--including what your grandma cooked, and they only serve the breast of the bird. Country ham, so salty you'll consume a gallon of the wonderful iced tea, is served with gravy and biscuits. There are bowls of green beans, cabbage, pinto beans, cole slaw, creamed whole kernal corn, and fluffy REAL mashed potatoes. There is chow-chow for the pintos, and to-die-for Garner's strawberry preserves for the hot biscuits. Dessert is ice cream and your choice of cobbler--apple, blackberry, strawberry. Nearby is Healing Springs, an old resort with the spring still open to the public--and it really works for the rhematism!!

Every year, for the past twenty, my family and I have dined at the Inn soon after opening and shortly before closing. In between we have introduced dozens of friends and relatives from the far reaches of the U.S. to the wonders of Shatley Springs Inn. We hope you, too, will go and enjoy a most wonderful experience. Nearby is Healing Springs, an old resort. The spring is still open to the public--and it really works for the rhematism!!
