I'm not sure why someone said this place has horrible service, but they must have hit an off night. We've never had that problem here. The food is excellent and the service is good. If you want some good old Italian style food, try this restaurant. Veal is excellent, along with everything else. It's in a very busy area of North Beach, but they have valet parking. We went to Beach Blanket Babylon afterwards and the valet let us park there for dinner and the show.

WARNING, THIS RESTAURAUNT HAS HORRIBLE SERVICE! This is the sign that should be hung over the door of North Beach Restauraunt to give diners fair warning. The food is unquestionably good, but I will never return to North Beach Restauraunt due to extremely poor service which I recieved. Not only did the waiter totaly ignore me and take an inordinate amount of time to take my order, he seemed oblivious to the fact that he had almost completely forgotten about me. This restauraunt is totally out of character in the North Beach dining scene which prides itself on it's good food and family style service. Don't go here.

We had a great time here having drinks outside people watching while we waited for our table. It was a long wait even with reservations but fun anyway. It took forever for the waiter to take our order but they were aware of it and sent us a drink and desert on the house. Everyones meal was excellent. the atmosphere is nice and the people are great hosts.

What a wonderful restaurant!! I first visited North Beach last year with a group of friends (12 of us total). We spent the entire evening in the Proscutto Room and ran up a $1500 bill. The food was excellent and the service was excellent. This was why I brought my co-workers back with me on my last trip. Though we didn't spend as much, the consensus was unanimous: North Beach is great!!

One of the best Italian restaurants this side of Lucca! The service is impeccable and Lorenzo Petroni, the proprietor, could not be more warm and welcoming and there is always an amusing story he'll tell! The pastas by co-proprietor, Bruno Orsi, are some of the finest in the Bay Area. The seafood is very fresh and the vegetables and antipasti are worth a visit alone. Desserts are very typical of an authentic Italian restaurant basically average. But let's not forget the espresso - San Francisco's finest! Graffeo! The North Beach Restaurant is a destination not to be missed!

The best Italian restaurant this side of Lucca. You will be greeted by the very warm and gracious proprietor, Lorenzo Petroni. Pastas prepared by co-proprietor, Bruno Orsi, are some of the best in the Bay Area as is the fish, which is as fresh as you can find anywhere. Be sure to try their antipasti! Again, some of the best you will ever find. Desserts are very typical of an authentic Italian restaurant, in other words, you be the judge! Don't miss their espresso - Graffeo! S.F.'s finest! The staff is very courteous and attentive. It's a dining experience and a destination not to be missed!

I have eaten here half a dozen times in the last decade, The food is always wonderful -veal particularly good. The place is a bit of an institution and the waiters are very pushy and get away with it. However the food is authentic and I've never had anything that was not excellent.

This is the N. Beach restaurant that changed all the rules. This is not just a "spagehetti and meatball joint" I've been coming here for about 27 years...and I can attest that it is always one of the best Italian restaurants in all the Bay area. I'll never forget the first time we ate here, it was on our honeymoon, and Lorenzo bought us dessert and after diner cordials. But more importantly, he joined us and another nearby couple in a delightful and animated conversation about SF and places for us to see (this was when we lived in Santa Barbara , before we moved to the Bay area). Since then, we go there whenever we want to remember SF as a smaller, friendlier town. Oh, and we always go there for the best in Milano style Italian cuisine...that's really what this is all about! It remains our favorite N. Beach dining experience (followed closely by Caffe Sport) and the one we consistantly refer to our friends. Oh, and about the service...it should be obvious from the comments above...it has always been good...professional...not intrusive.. but still friendly and warm.

There is no question that the food is very good. The pesto pasta was very tastefully done, and the veal was excellent. If one was to come and just experience the food, then this is the place to come. BUT! If you want to order, you need to know how to enter it into the register, if you want something to drink, get it yourself, and if you need refills, you better push aside the bartender and get it because the waiters don't attend to the tables! Sitting down in the basement is particularly difficult because it's noisy and there are typically 2 waiters for the entire basement! It's really annoying and digusting how management hasn't done a thing about the lousy service! I'd would love to come back to eat, but I'm afraid I'd starve in the process. SERVICE IS THE WORST I'VE SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME!

4 stars for the food and service, but no stars on the bill. Two people ordered the announced specials. We were naive and did not ask the prices. The abalone was $55 and some angel hair with five average shrimpw was about $24. After paying for our stupidity, I complained to the manager and was informed that the abalone was a bargain. The food was excellent and the server was attentive but not intrusive. The pasta was very good . I heartily recommend the restauant, but beware of the specials unless you ask the price.

This is probably one of the ten best Italian eateries in the Bay Area. Congeniality plus from the owner(Lorenzo) to all the waiters. Food is excellent. The entrees are many but if you have the inclination you can start at the top and go to the bottom selecting a new dish each time you visit the NBR. My favorite is Veal Sorrento, try it you will like it.

Impecable service. The quality of the food and the presentation was excellent. The coffee was absolutely the best we've had in a restaurant.

Truly a fine Italian dining experience. The menu is complete and the service is very good. The wine list includes something for everyone. Desserts are excellent. I stromgly recommend North Beach Restaurant for an evening with that special someone. Valet parking is a must.
