Outstanding food, romatic setting, but it left me questioning

I went here for my girlfriend's birthday. Our waitress was very courteous
and extremely helpful. I did not see any of this discriminatioin some people
were talking about. The staff were wonderful to us. The food was excellent.
We had the prix fixe menu and I had the venison and my girlfriend had the stuffed
quail. There were extra tidbits that came in between the courses that was
complimentary from the chef. The chocolate candies at the end was also a nice
touch to a wonderful evening. I would definitely go back again for a special
occasion.

Overall, Fleur de Lys was a disappointing experience, given its
price and reputation. In our experience, the waiting staff was
very helpful and friendly, but the atmosphere was extremely
stuffy (both the decoration and the patrons).
The food was a very high quality rendition of
pretty classic French cuisine. Unfortunately, the "suggested
wines" were rather uneven.

My wife and I dined atFleur De Lys on our honymoon.
The atmosphere, staff and food were excellent. It
was the perfect place to go for that occasion. It is
expensive, but we plan on re-visiting on our anniversary.

OUR HOTEL. IT WAS WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF THE NICEST EXPERIENCES

My wife and I went here for our 7th wedding anniversary
in Oct. of 96(Monday). The food and service was
outstanding. The host, was very kind and friendly. We
were expecting someone a bit "stuffy" and arrogant, but
he was great. The only negative was that I selected
this resturant beacuse of it's "most romantic" rating by
gourmet maganzine but for a Monday nite(only nite
available before our anniversary) it was filled with
business gatherings. Large tables with business people
so it was'nt as romantic as I would of liked.
I would still return(maybe on the weekend)the food was
out of this world.

Outstanding food, romatic setting, but it left me questioning my
sanity for paying $52 for the "vegetarian feast". This meal must set a
record for highest margins in the food industry. With all of the great
resturants in the Bay area, there's no excuse for this resturant to
receive the acclaim it does. The haughty service and ridiculous prices
should relagate it to a "yuppie butthead hell".

Although the food and presentation food were excellent, we were
somewhat disappointed. Service was about average, prices are high and
the atmosphere is eclectic to say the least. We had the pre fixe
dinner... portions are small but courses plentiful. Expect to pay
~$100/head including cocktails and 3 course wine sampler with
dinner. Some of the wines served on the pre fixe wine sampler are not
particularly high calibre. Would I go there again? Probably not! It
feels stuffy and unfriendly.

An Excellent dining experience. We started off with the Pasta and
Wild Mushrooms and the Gulf Prawns with Green beans for Apitizers.
The Fresh Greens with garlic croutons and Roquert cheeze salad was
nothing to spectacular, but the Entree and Desserts were!
We had Sea Bass on garlic roasted mashed potatoes and Squab with
vegtables in an exquiste sauce (that I can't seem to remember what the
sauce was called) that was very lite yet very complementary to both
the vegatables and Squab. For dessert, we had a special surprize.
When I made reservations, Emanuelle asked if it was a special occasion
and I let her know it was our Anniversary. We chose the Chocolate
Creme Brule and Choclate orange cake. Both were absolutely great and
it was even more spectacular when the pastry chef added a special
Anniversay touch to our dessert (you'll have to check this one out for
yourselves)! This was done all on their own -- not prompting from
me!
The service was excellent. The staff was extremel ...

I plan on eating here in a few weeks, but would just like to relate a
similar story about the unbelievable rudeness of the staff. They
usually hang up on you when you call for reservations and they are
booked. I have called them at least 5 times. Here were recent
responses in a heavy, French accent:
"Ahhlow, Fleur duh Lee. May I help eww?"
"Yes, what is your earliest seating that is available for tonight?"
"Five-therrtee."
"And what will you be serving tonight?"
"We serve FOOD (Feewed) here."
"Yes, I know you serve FOOD, but you have a fixed-price menu. What
sorts of courses will be served?"
(Shuffling of papers) "Uh, foie gras, crabmeat, salmon...(etc)...Eees
that all?" (He was about to hang up)
I find this peculiar, because most restaurants are more than happy to
describe their tasting menus or special entrees on the menu (Chez
Panisse, Masa's, Alain Rondelli, Ritz Carlton...) Then minutes later,
my friend and I conference called and my friend asked for a 6pm
seating, but b ...
