I love this restaurant!!!!I hadn't been there for years; however, I had visitors from England and New Zealand who couldn't get over the atmosphere, the fabulous food and the "rudeness."Although they weren't as "rude" as I remember---but the "rudeness" is part of the charm!!!!The shrimp with the garlic cream sauce is simply to die for!!!!(This time of year they sometimes serve it with asparagus since it's in season, and they cook it perfectly--not mushy!!!!)We tried the Cioppino with the white sauce(GARLIC CITY!!!!) which was almost better than the shrimp dish. The pesto, as always, was great!!I haven't been there since 1991 and the food was identical!!!Their consistency over the years is great. The wine list leaves something to be desired, but, when the food is so phenomenal, who cares?????

Took ten people there and we SCARFED!!!!!! MOUWED!!!!!!
DEVOUWERED!!!! BURPED!!!! TOOK NO PRISONERS!!!!! We
also pissed off the people around us, but by the end
of the evening we were sharing wine and toasting the
evening away.
Matt McFerrin, this place is ITALIAN. The service and
food was legendary!!!! You have to know how to enjoy a
place like this. You have to know how to entertain. You
have to be the MAN! The waiters were classic! I always
get "comments" from the waiters, you just have to know
what to say.
Enjoy your next dinner!

Funky Atmosphere "which is lots of fun", the service is
good, however be prepared to be insulted. "This is part of
their mystic" they love to engage you in a brusk style of
conversation, give it right back and you will enjoy the
experience even more. The food is served family style and is
very good. I have eaten here at least 20 times in the last 5
years and have never had a bad meal. There are no
reservations, but if you are late for a seating and there is
space at the bar, take it, you won't regret it.

Had heard great things about the restaurant, so finally went
when 3 Japanese business partners wanted a good Italian meal.
We were all disappointed!!!
pluses:
Family style is always nice.
Funky atmoshpere is fun.
Negatives:
The dishes were so-so on flavor.
3 out of 4 dishes were very luke warm, other was scalding hot.
Wine list was non-existent (they literally don't have one, but
the bottle they brought out was ridicoulously expensive.
Price of meal not worth it. $170 for 4 people.
Worst of all, I really feel that the service was mediocre mainly
because the waiter seemed rather irritated by the language
barrier of my dinner companions.
Basically I am glad the company paid for it, else I would have
been quite upset. The other reviews make it seem impossible that
my experience is the norm, however I wll not take the chance of
spending so much for so little.

Garlic City, I love it. The food, the service, everything was
great. It is a little small and gets a little crowded but the
atmosphere makes up for it. Best Italian joint in town. I agree
with Bill, "Caffe Sport" should get 4 1/2 stars.

I take trips to San Francisco just to eat this fabulous food.
I haven't had better Italian food anywhere, and I have no idea what
the famous "rude" service is all about -- the staff has been charming
every time I've eaten there. Lunchtime is especially a treat.
I'll tell you, I think about Caffe Sport often... and dream of their
pesto...

This is indeed one of the best Italian restaurants in all the Bay
area...I really think it deserves about 4 1/2 stars (marked down
for indifferent wine list and a fun but funky dining area). I
don't know who provided the detailed info above but most of it
is wrong (outdoor dining? reservations...ha! and you better bring
cash) What does this restaurant do right? Almost everything..from
nagging you about what to order...to preparing the "best" pasta
and garlic scampi dishes known to man. This is not about Northern
Italian cuisine with its fine traditions...this is Siciliano style
with the robust flavors of the south (with seafood predominately
featured). If there is one restaurant in N. Beach that will provide
your out of town guests with that special SF feeling, this is it!

Bizzare atmosphere combined with fantastic fare. The PESTO is a must!!!
Ask about the "Spooning" ritual....I'll give you a hint...It involves
filling one of the HUGE serving spoons with what is left over from the
meal, say...calimare or pesto, and getting the entire thing in your
mouth, spoon included, without spilling it all over yourself or your
collegues...join the ranks of the elite...
You will enjoy yourself at Caffe Sport.....

This is the absolutely best Italian food outside of New York! I
have found nothing in the Bay Area that even gets
close to Caffe' Sport. The pasta, meat & mushrooms
dish, is only surpassed by the scampi ala Antonio as
well as the best pesto I've had anywhere! The
atmosphere is fun and the service is as
unpretentious as it gets. The only downer is the
lousy wine offering.
