The food here was really good and memorable. But the wait for a
table was terrible...even though we didn't go on a weekend
or during tourist season. It is a bit noisy because there are so
many people. Although, I do have a general comment about food
in Hawaii...it seems like they use a lot of salt in everything.

The Roy's at Poipu Beach is tucked away in a shopping mall,
of all places. While the view is non-existent, the food is very
good. We had the poke (lightly marinated tuna sashimi in a "round"
presentation on delicately flavored Japanese sushi rice) in
a shiso (Japanese beefsteak) reduction sauce and spring roll
appetizers. Dinner was roasted opah and macadamia-coated sea
bass. The delicate flavors of the fish were skillfully drawn
out. Do not order the beef or pork here, it would really be a waste
of the chefs' talents. And who could resist the signature
chocolate souffle cake - when you cut into it with a fork, molten
chocolate pours out. Like something from the movie Charlie and
the Chocolate Factory. At $90 a couple, with no alcohol (2 bottles
of pelligrino) its a splurge but a fish lovers delight. My only
regret is the lightening speed at which the dishes arrive. Wham,
bam. But this is a restaurant that clearly wants to turn the tables,
if that bothe ...

I generally concur with the comments below....food is excellent...wine
selection is good...service is good with aloha spirit...I guess
the thing I like most about Roy's is it is a great opportunity
to sample a lot of small dishes (with extremes in flavors)...I
think we almost always just order a bunch of appetisers...and
skip the entrees. This is my second favorite Restaurant on the
Island...(see the Beach House just down the road towards Spouting
Horn)

Roys comes highly recommended and the food did not disappoint.
Having had my fill of seafood in prevoius days I ordered the filet
(rare). It was cooked to perfection and was one of the best in flavor
I have ever had. The only curious thing was cut in four slices and
piled one on top of the next criss-cross, an odd way to serve steak.
My wife had a fish dish which was excellent and we shared an appetizer
of pot stickers. The waiter, though very busy, found the time
to explain the food preparation and serve us in a timely manner.
Ambiance could be a little better as the place is in a small shopping
mall and shoppers walk through an area of the restaurant. That
could be improved upon considering the prices paid for dinners.
Small children are not a rarity here so if it's a quiet romantic
setting you seek, scout your table carefully.

Roy?s Poipu Bar & Grill is one of the original, Hawaiian Island
originated, Roy?s restaurants that showcase the amazing culinary
creations of chef/owner Roy Yamaguchi. There are currently
sixteen Roy?s restaurants, with the five in the Hawaiian Islands
owned by Roy. and the eleven other locations (Tokyo, Guam, Pebble
Beach, Seattle, Newport Beach, Scottsdale, Manhattan, and
Bonita Springs) operated under franchise agreements. A recent
joint venture agreement with Outback Steakhouses will mean
more Roy?s restaurants popping up at a quicker pace. Hopefully
they can keep the outstanding quality.
The food is some of the most innovative creations I have had at
any restaurant. It is best described as the fusion of a lot of Asian
ingredients, spices, and tastes with European methods and preparation
styles. You will be amazed by the diverse selection of ingredients,
flavors, spices, and styles of the appetizers and main entrée
dishes. The appetizers are so unique and fun ...

Food is excellent, but I won't go back because it's too pricey,
and they rush you terribly. Wine selection great, but if you can't
sit and enjoy yourself - it's not worth the trip. I haven't been
back for three or four years, so it might have changed by now.
