There are very good places in Austin where there are good Texas-Mexican
food (not the Southwest style). The cheese enchiladas have more cheese
than any place I have been. They have desert without extra charge - and
offer sherbet like they used to in all the mexican diners. The portions
of food are more than normal, so after eating there once, you order leass
the nest time. The guacomole is smooth and flavorable and they give
you more that a tablespoon. The queso is to die for. Can you tell I like
cheese? The lines there on Friday and Saturday nites can be long, so
get there before dates start - before 7.

The food was the best I've eaten in years. It's "real"
Mexican food like I grew up on in San Antonio served on old chipped plates
(the real thing). From the Salsa and Chips to the main course was fantastic.
The waiters were very helpfull and the owner even asked if everything
is ok. Interesting to see the pictures of people who have eaten there
over the past 51 years. I wish North Texas had something this good.

El Patio is an Austin landmark. The employees and owner there
are really some of the nicest people on the planet. Their service
is worth the trip alone. But, a side note, their food is fantastic.
Their unique flat tacos are the best tacos I have personally ever
experienced. Don't look this place over, it is tucked away.
After your mexican food you get complimentary sherbert. What
an ending to great food, free great food!

This to me is the best Mexican food in towm, very consistant in
quality and taste. They now serve chips with the salsa (although
I did enjoy the crackers). Evem when busy ( and they are most of
the time) the service is great. The meals are very reasonable.

A Tex-Mex institution in Austin. Beware though. The salsa is
served with crackers (not chips) here.

No so great. I have had better. Trudys, Chuy's and Taco Bueno are
better. It is too commerical and not very personal. The Shiner
Bock was good though. :)
