This USED to be the #1 mexican restaurant in detroit about 15+ years ago, but the prices went up and the quality and quantity went down. definitely not #1 anymore or even in my top 5 favs for mexican food. i'll give it an average at best, and thats being kind.

WAY over rated! Food was taste-less and not presented well at all. Waitress was very good however. Save yourself a trip into Mexican town, and stick with you local favorite. I drove over 1 hour to come here...very disapointed overall.

My Husband and I like Xochimilco's but we have a problem. We live about 30 minutes from the restaurant, tonight is the 2nd time we have recieved the wrong order on a take out order. My Husband called to complain, the manager named Tony said bring the food back and he would give us free chips and sauce. Dont they give chips and sauce anyway? We both work for a major medical facility and we will NOT return to Xochilco's again. Sometimes on lunch we bring in as many as 20 people but I see we will have to find a different place to dine. Thank You Tony for NOT caring about your customers. Mrs Wade 1/10/07

My family and I have been going to Xochimilco for about 15 years. Yes... it is busy, but isn't that a good thing? Food is great. Large portions and great prices. Management is very kind. A MUST!

Smack dab in the middle of Mexican Town, this place garners glorious raves for its more-than-ample parking lot. It's huge and free, which is rare for Detroit. Inside, you'll find an interesting mix of neighborhood folks, suburban commuters, police officers and gobs of hipsters grabbing a late night bite. The Mexican fare at Xochimilco (pronounced so-she-MIL-co) is traditional, consistent and fresh. Look under the ''favorites of Mexico'' portion of the menu to find more than the typical taco and chimichanga offerings. The nopalitos, a dish of cactus cooked with eggs, onion, green peppers and spices, is a particular standout. Portions are quite large and you could easily split some dinners. Drinks are quite a deal, too: Domestic beer and imports both cost $3. Or else you could splurge on a frozen margarita. The decor is worn and Mexican decorations abound, from posters to blankets to beer signs. But the atmosphere is friendly, comfortable and the food can't be beaten. -- Heidi Rehak

Only been there once and it was with a large group of people. The management had been given more than enough notice, but failed to make enough staff available. The food was hastely made and the staff that was there wasn't very friendly. The biggest saving grace from making the trip a total washout was that Canadian money was at par.

This is real mexican food. I say that first as a compliment and a warning. Most of us really don't like REAL mexican food. If you do, thats great, but don't forget to warn the people you are going there with. I myself think the food is great. It might take a few times to get your food the exact way you like it. They always make your food exactly as you order it. I like to go for lunch early and avoid the crowds.

Been there so many times under so many circumstances, everyone knows the place for 200 miles in every location. a Detroit landmark.holds late hours in a town that all but shuts down at ten o clock.

Okay Mexican food, toned-down for the meek midwestern palate. If you're visiting from the south or south-west, skip it and go to Greek town.

My favorite Mexican place in the Detroit metro area. Go early as it gets very crowded. It's worth a trip downtown.

Decent Mexican food, once you are seated (which may take hours) the fastest service around, however brusque. Situated in the shadow of the Ambassador Bridge in the heart of Mexicantown, very busy on game days. There are other restaurants around within a block or two with more varied menus, but if you want standards served up within five minutes of ordering, this is the place to go.

This has got to be my all time favorite restaurant. If you want mexican then this is the place to go, because it is REAL mexican. Every item on the menu is superb! Parking is easy, the staff is excellent, and you never have to wait long for your food. Also, their salsa is to die for!
