Rockridge Cafe is a great place to go for some casual American food. They make all sorts of styles from the morning until 9pm, so if you're in the mood for burgers, or salads, or omelettes, whatnot, this might just be the place. Rockridge is cheap, which is good, and the service is very kind and fast, the owner is a wonderful fellow. I especially like the Spinach and Goat Cheese salad. The problem is that because the Cafe is an all-around American food place, it can't compete with the specialists. Barney's, two blocks away, has better burgers, for example. But this place is very homey, great quality, so I'd recommend it for some good cafe food right on College Ave.

I have been a purveyor of the Rockridge Cafe for almost ten years now. I am no longer going to visit this establishment due to an incident that happened on Aug 27, 2000. I was in the mood for breakfast food and entered the cafe at 1:45pm. Breakfast ends at 2 pm on the weekends. If they were done serving breakfast, they should have informed when I was seated. No one mentioned breakfast not being an option as I was ordering my coffee. When the waitress returned and I tried to order the french toast, she said that breakfast had ended. I pointed at the clock which read 1:50 and asked why. She said that the cooks were tired and were ending it early today. Gee, I wish I could stop working at my job when I am fatigued! I was not interested in what was offered for lunch so I walked up to the front to pay for my coffee. When I informed the manager of my dissatisfaction, he threw his hands up in the air and said, "Oh well." I guess they really don't want my business that bad. I hope others heed my warning if they are expecting a modecum of service at their eating establishment.

An ok place for some inexpensive basic food, and sometimes a wonderful surprise special. I've had vegetarian lasagne that was superb (and lots of it!), salmon that was very good, and many a burger that ranged from mediocre to good. I'd definitely go for the deserts and coffee! I grew up on a dairy farm back east, and this food is more like mom used to make, and MUCH better quality, than at theRed Tractor Cafe down the street.
