Let's be frank, once you enter the grounds of T.J's Gingerbread House, Gazebo & Gardens you are in for a treat. While it is best to make a reservation, whether for breakfast, lunch or an early dinner, it is not necessary unless you are at a preferred nightly seating. They have take out as well, and that includes almost everything that is included on the menu. If you really want to get down and have your stomach completely enjoy this fine southern cuisine, I would recommend on that take out order, either T.J.'s famous Spoon Jambalaya ( $8.95), her Gumbo( $12.95), or Chicken & dumplings ($9.95). Hey take it from me, I have tasted practically everything that has come out of her kitchen, and the Crawfish Etoufee, Parrish pies, either Meat, Veggies or Crawfish can delight even the strong hearted. A lot has been said about the slowness of the service, Hellllo think you forgot this is elegant Southern Style Table Service for you to take your time and just enjoy. You got that one right, they will not rush you to get up and leave. Average lunch can be a good two hours.
Much as been said about her lunch and dinner offerings, but let me tell you, you need to get a bunch of friends together and try her Breakfast. They serve it Tuesday through Saturday beginning at 9am and continuing until 11am. She has Omelet's to die for, the Cajun stuffed with Louisiana hot sausage, ham and veggies, cooked in Creole Bouillabaise sauce and sprinkled with pink shrimps, but my favorite is French Omelet stuffed with pink shrimps topped with Big Prawns covered with a velverty rich cream sause. Now I forgot to mention the Creole fill with Louisiana hot sausage, chicken, crabs and okra, sauteed in creole sauce and sprinkled with shrimps. Yes the serve a Vegetable Omelet filled with creamy beans topped with sauteed veggies.
The price is right as well only $8.95 sierved with a side order and mine is the Cheesy Grits cooked with white cheese. They also have Garlic Potato, Morning Rice and homemade biscuit or her Sassy Cornbread, so you ask why the name, because once you take that first bite, it will sass you back and you'll take the next one as well.
For the yonger members of the family there are T.J's Breakfast Cakes, Cinnaman, in the shape of a gingerbread man served with fresh fruit, Chocolate men, hey that means two gingerbread men with homade chocolate syrup and served with fresh fruit and my favorite Banana Man with a happy face with a big smile garnished with fruits and that big banana smile. Upon arrival at the Gingerbread House you can't help but notice the uniqueness of it. The gift shop is small and stuffed with hand-made fabric dolls, some of which are for sale. We Followed the pink hearts up the stairs to one of three dinning areas, our wait was about 10 minutes. The meal started off with a refreshing fruit salad consisting of starfruit, blackberries, strawberries, grapes, orange slices & bananas topped with a sprinkling of coconut. It's best to order your meal when you make your reservations, that way you are not limited to the few selections on the menu reserved for drop-ins. They were happy to fax us a menu a couple days in advance for our convenience. We ordered stuffed lamb and Whisky stuffed lobster, with a caraf of Burgandy wine. The lamb was served with a nut & raisin topping and was extremely hot. Best to let it cool a couple of minutes as it burnt my tongue but was cooked to perfection and tender. To top it all we enjoyed ice cream and a warm chocolate chip,gingerbread cookie and a cup of hot instant coffee. As we rolled out of the dinning room and made our way to our car we could'nt help but look over our shoulders and say "we'll be back". less
