Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. What more do you need to say. Bring the plastic, it is a bit expensive.

Curiously decorated place, a little too cutesy for me. Street parking only, somewhat seedy neighborhood. Reservations would have been a good idea, but waited only about 30 minutes because it was early. Piano playing and vocals very good, but a little loud (acoustics were lousy). BART went over every 20 minutes or so drowning out all other sound on the planet and rattling the place like a 7.0 earthquake. Service is supposed to be slow, but it seemed okay to me; very friendly and courteous. Food quality and presentation varied by the dish from average to very good. The Red Beans and Rice with Sausage was so-so, but the Jumbalya was super. The Prime Rib looked great, as did the chicken. The biggest drawback is the price. Most everything on the menu is grossly overpriced, even the drinks (I don't care how long the food takes to cook). I probably won't go back because of the prices.

Let's be frank, once you enter the grounds of T.J's Gingerbread House, Gazebo & Gardens you are in for a treat. While it is best to make a reservation, whether for breakfast, lunch or an early dinner, it is not necessary unless you are at a preferred nightly seating. They have take out as well, and that includes almost everything that is included on the menu. If you really want to get down and have your stomach completely enjoy this fine southern cuisine, I would recommend on that take out order, either T.J.'s famous Spoon Jambalaya ( $8.95), her Gumbo( $12.95), or Chicken & dumplings ($9.95). Hey take it from me, I have tasted practically everything that has come out of her kitchen, and the Crawfish Etoufee, Parrish pies, either Meat, Veggies or Crawfish can delight even the strong hearted. ($6.95) A lot has been said about the slowness of the service, Hellllo think you forgot this is elegant Southern Style Table Service for you to take your time and just ... more

Let's see, where shall I start...You've got to try the whisky stuffed lobster, the pick-you-heart-out chicken, and the prime rib is the best I've ever had. The dirty rice and the butter- soaked cornbread will make you hurt yourself! The service is excellent and they have no trouble handling large parties, just bring your credit card, 'cause you pay for what you get.

Upon arrival at the Gingerbread House you can't help but notice the uniqueness of it. The gift shop is small and stuffed with hand-made fabric dolls, some of which are for sale. We Followed the pink hearts up the stairs to one of three dinning areas, our wait was about 10 minutes. The meal started off with a refreshing fruit salad consisting of starfruit, blackberries, strawberries, grapes, orange slices & bananas topped with a sprinkling of coconut. It's best to order your meal when you make your reservations, that way you are not limited to the few selections on the menu reserved for drop-ins. They were happy to fax us a menu a couple days in advance for our convenience. We ordered stuffed lamb and Whisky stuffed lobster, with a caraf of Burgandy wine. The lamb was served with a nut & raisin topping and was extremely hot. Best to let it cool a couple of minutes as it burnt my tongue but was cooked to perfection and tender. The lobster was very tasty with shrimp & mushrooms ... more

Absolutely the best Cajun/Creole food in the Bay. Even my friend, who's father owns a Cajun spice company in the Texas/LA area, agrees. Very personal and good service, though some of the overly politically correct may be offended. I take all my out of town visitors here.
