On Nov.27, at 4:00PM, My husband and I stopped in to eat an early dinner at Costa's. We were looking forward to eating there as this was our first visit. As we entered, we were greeted with a scowl, and nothing else. No welcome, how are you today, nothing verbal. She did ask our seating preference, smoking or non, and I was under the impression Trussville was restricted for smoking. She informed us the smoking area was glassed in. The smell was as strong as if we had been in the smoking section. As an ex smoker I know the smell of stale smoke. She handed us the menu, and inquired as to our drink, and we ordered coffee. I asked if she could brew a fresh pot, if it was not fresh already. She scowled again, and said "Yeah I guess so." We glanced at the menu, but the odor was so strong we were uncomfortable breathing, so we drank our (overpriced coffee) and left. Having lived in California for the last 10 years, where Mediterranean Cafe's are adbundant and all the ones where we ate were wonderful, and of course CA is a smoke free state, unless an outdoor seating area is provided. My rating of 1 is very generous. Our first vist was our last visit.

Costas is one fine home style Italian dinner. The portions are large and food is wonderfull what more can I say. The baked spaghetti is the best I have eatten. They have other items on teh menue but the Italian is the best any where. You will not leave hungry.

I felt as though I was sitting in the tavernas sipping anise flavored ouno! The service there is only excelled bt the food. Try the small olive pastries as an appetizer. The Affetato(Italian cured meats) is excellent. Complete your meal with one of their fine desserts. I suggest the Zabaglione.

I would have to say that Birmingham lacks in good European cuisine. As for Costa's, I have been their twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. They have large selection of different entrees and at very reasonable prices. The food is pretty good and they give large portions. The service was good too. The girl seemed to know a good amount about dining and food. She was polite as well. The set up is very nice. You would tink that you were in a fine dining type restaurant but you will see people dressed casual. Crazy thing about this place is that the have a drive trough! If you go try the Veal Picante. Enjoy!

the food is wonderful!! generous portions, variety of greek and italian dishes. the house dressing is robust and great for dipping bread into. the chicken pesto is a personal favorite, but anything on the menu is sure to please the palette. wait service at times can be so-so, but the last few visits have been satisfactory. excellent iced tea, and we all know how important that is in the South!

Wonderful place. Most dishes take a little time to prepare. Wonderful bread. Very good Italian food - never tried others. Excellent portion sizes; I've never left hungry and often take some home with me. I really like their sausage and pepper hero for lunch.

The food was good but some of the entrees could have been better. If you like a good vinigerette the salad is wonderful. Good appertizers also. However, stay away from the seafood, it screams FROZEN.

Choose anything from the menu, you are certain to enjoy. Try the basalmic vinigerette on your salad, it can't be beat!
