If you are an oyster fan this is the place for you. Its a fun bar like atmosphere,
but the food is top notch. If you are a fan of oysters of any style they
have the right ones for you. It was the first place i ate oysters and now
im hooked.

Fun place with occasional live bands - mostly weekends. Food is good
to very good, and the service was very good, despite the kind of hectic
atmosphere. Great bar.

Good but not great. I would call it overpriced. I used to hear everyone
rave about it. SO I went. I am unimpressed. However I do know many
a man to meet a younger lady here that is looking for an older man
to hang out with. A friend of mine meet his wife here years ago.

Good but not great food. Crowded and noisy with long waits and
insufficient parking. 42nd St Oyster Bar is a place to visit mainly
for the reputation. Unfortunately I don't believe it lives
up to the hype. The menu and beer list are both large, but the din
made it impossible for me to enjoy the food. Let's not even
get started on prices - Ouch! I guess I just prefer substance over
style.

This is a good place to eat every now and then. I remember the first
time I ever went, I loved it. Things have changed and the food is
not as good and there is usally a pretty long wait to be seated and
then to get your food (if ordering off the menu). This place is
not worth going once a week, but it's still good for an occasional
get-together of friends.

The food is pretty good, but the oyster bar is not always very consistant.
It is always a good crowd and good food for the most part. The service
is good and the prices are alittle high.

A local favorite. Always too crowded to enjoy any wait time at
all. Good atmosphere for buisiness lunches or seeing local celebrity.
As for the food...not worth the price! My wife loves the food so
I am dragged there more often than I like. I got a seafood pasta
dish there that was very bland and tasteless. I think the food
seems fresh but the dishes just aren't very tasty to me. Between
the drive time, wait time, and price, I just can't make a strong
recommendation for 42nd street.

A local favorite. I always see celebrity newscasters when I dine
here. The food is good, parking can be annoying and the place can
get very smokey. The hushpuppies are yummy.

This place is WAY over rated! It used to live up to its name but the
food isn't that good, isn't that fresh and VERY over priced. And
I've been on 42nd street - its nothing like that. Seafood is the
one fare that takes me out of Raleigh, to Fishmongers in Durham.

42nd Street Oyster Bar and Grill has elevated itself over other
restaurants by becoming a Raleigh institution. Raleigh would
be considerably less well off culturally without a flagship
restaurant like 42nd St. The establishment suits many needs.
From private conversations between Raleigh politicos to family
birthday celebrations, the menu focuses on fine seafood but
has something for every appetite. While I wouldn't classify
the preparation as gourmet, that is not 42nd's venue. They are
in the business of creating an enjoyable dining experience around
the theme of seafood and will never disappoint. Now if I can only
catch a bluefin tuna as large as the one on their wall...
