I have been eating at this restaurant for 41 years and it certainly has changed over the years. The decor is a hodge podge of former and current owners and could cause an LSD flashback with its patterned square and floral rug, faux sponged walls in the bar, patterned wallpaper and different patterned booths in the main restaurant, a trompe l'oeuil entrance to the restaurant with the biggest chair you have ever seen-hilarious but threatening to the senses!

The bar includes the oyster and espresso bars with a TV that only shows sports channels-smoking is allowed and food is served in there!Have you ever tried to eat a dozen oysters for which you have paid dearly and someone is sucking on a ciggy right next to you?UNFAIR! The restaurant menu has changed in the past few years to reflect the current mainstream trends in food but the quality of the food is lacking.I should know-in the past 15 years I have eaten there 2-3 times a week to escape meat eating parents for whom I was caregiving.

Last night I had the caesar salad-soggy with dressing and low quality grated cheese on top. Then I had the mushroom ravioli and those raviolis were pre-al dente=barely cooked and doughy. The filling was good but the sauce was brown gravy with marsala wine added with a few portabello slices on top.The dessert cart hasn't changed since I used to eat a dessert with every meal-now I'm wearing those desserts on my outer thighs and wishing for a dessert with only fruit and cream without the rock hard meringue. The salad bar is quite hearty and if you pick and choose on the menu I am sure you can find something to your liking. This is the only restaurant worth eating at in Augusta, Maine-the breakfasts are hearty and lunch is passable but when the words on the menu look innovative, the quality of the food should reflect that.
