I'm very picky and eat out every meal. The sushi is great.
The service is the friendliest in the bay area. I agree with all
the previous reviewers comments. Amazing that this place has
been able to keep up the quality and the SERVICE for all these years.
I live in Palo Alto and drive over the bridge just to eat sushi.

Sashimi is fresh and HUGE portions. I just cut in half and it's
like getting a second order for free. :0 When I'm not too hungry,
I just ask to make sure the sushi is not too thick and they are happy
to slice to order.

Not only is the sashimi huge, the Tempura (shrimp) is huge and
there's no downside to that.
<br>
Salad is also very fresh and miso perfect. Overall all the ingredients
that make your favorite dish seems fresh. I've found this
to be rare in the bay area, but it's always fresh at Kioku.

Good sushi. Fresh but not as fresh as Sumo Sushi. Other items like
Chicken Teriyaki and tempura are pretty good.

First, note that I am very picky about my sushi. Also I am very much a traditionalist when it comes tosushi bars. Kioku is definitely acceptible. It's sushi is fresh enough. However, I would not give it a "very fresh"rating. And the fish portions (although quite expertly cut) istoo large for my tastes. The rice again is formed quitewell with the form and the right size, but no firmness or"bunchiness" in the rice. The sashimi unfortunately was just on this side (acceptible)with a slight fishy taste. Maybe it was just that day, butI don't think I'll order the sashimi that goes with the mealthe next time. The other people that I was with didn't smell it.The teriyaki chicken was done the way that I like it with crispy skin with tare on top. However, I always note that this ismore of a Hong Kong/American version than the real teriyakichicken (marinated and basted). The tempura was quite good with the vegetables cooked properlyand the batter being not too oily and still quite light. Theydid no ...

Kioku is always consistant in having very fresh sushi and
friendly, prompt service. The place is usually always full and
the atmoshphere is pleasant.

Absolutely the freshiest and the best tasting sushi(large portion too)
I find anywhere in the bay area. Make the pilgrimage to this holy
place of sushi, and you will be glad you did. Avoid the weekend as
you might not be seated right away for 15-30 minutes.

Excellent Japanese restaurant with the highest quality
sushi to be found in the East Bay. Service is fast and
efficient. Lots of Japanese visit this resturant and
be prepared for a short wait especially on Friday or
Saturday night.
I highly recommend this restaurant if you like sushi
and want to try types that are out of the ordinary.

Wonderful place!! The sushi is very high quality. The
prices are moderate. The atmosphere and head sushi chef
(Benson) make it great fun to hang out. What more could
we ask?

Wow! The best sushi that we've found in the East Bay! We
can't wait to walk in and be greeted as old friends,as well
as be given generous amounts of our favorite fish! Benson
is the best. We were told of this place from a friend on
the peninsula. Many travel far and wide for this tasty
treat! Try it out, you can't lose!
