Rich Davis won the American Royal BBQ competition and maximized his
success. He sold his secret sauce to Kingsford, opened KC Masterpiece
BBQ Restaurant, and put his name on several books. To be fair, KC Masterpiece
is at the top of the Kansas City BBQ food chain, but they're not the
best. The food is good, to be sure. It's what BBQ should taste like.
But the service is indifferent, food portions have diminished, and
prices have escalated. With Jack Stack and Smokehouse close at hand,
there really is no reason to eat at Rich's house.

A tip of the hat to Dr. Rich - you put KC BBQ on the Zagat radar, but do we
need bbq joints with white table cloths? KCM is a great restaurant and
most good hosts dutifully take their out-of-town guests there. The
food is good and certainly authentic. But it's not a bit better
than JackStack of SmokeHouse - both of which are less presumptuous
and more appealing to someone serious about KC BBQ. Get off the beaten
path.

Have to agree with most of the other comments. Its cost is higher than
any other BBQ place in town. I am sure a reason for that is the name recognition.
Food was very good, service was average.

I love bbq and decided to try this one because I use KC Masterpiece
at home. The food was good but was quite expensive for the portions
received. There are several places for better bbq in KC.

This place sells it BBQ sauce all over the country, and for good
reason. It has mastered the art of BBQ. One of the best in KC. My
favorite.

The Carolina pork sandwich is one of the best that I have tasted;
however serving size is small. There are several other places
in town that rate 4 stars, this is not one of them.

The food is fantastic. On occasion the service can be slow but
