Some of the best Chinese food around, fast, friendly and will
do substitutions sometimes, so ask. Their shrimp in lobster
sauce is mouth-watering. I loved it. Even when it is crowded the
wait for a table isn't long, they have a fast turn around.
Prices are good and the atmosphere is nice. It is quiet enough
that you can carry on a conversation with someone. Would definitely
go back.

The extensive menu features many items typically found only
in Chinatown.

The contemporary decor is pleasant and affords the diner a comfortable
environment. The staff is courteous and attentive.

Most of the menu is verbal, so people don't even bother looking
at the brief items printed out. It's advisable to let the
classy Eileen Leong guide you through her creative seasonal
specialties. Three generations have been coming here since
1977, and there's an in-the-know clubby feel to the clientele,
which is missing at many other Chinatown spots. On a nondescript
block and practically under the Manhattan Bridge, the quadrangular
dining room is surprisingly attractive and decorated in shades
of blue. Standout items are diced wintermelon, stuffed clams,
and crispy chicken with scallions. If you go to Canton, you'll
find a restaurant that serves guests Cantonese and Chinese.

You automatically think Chinese food is greasy but not at Chiam.
Expensive and small servings but food is excellent here. Some
entre costs over $20. Dim lights create a romantic atmosphere.

It is a true injustice that this resturant is not recognized as
the premier Chinese restaurant in NYC as it beats the food at higher
priced and more prestigious Chinese resturants by a mile and
that of the establishments in China town by the distance from
here to Asia. The ribs are amazing - lean, deliciously caramelized.
Every dish from the Grand Marnier shrimp to the Beef with Broccoli
to the specialty offerings is perfection. To boot, Nancy the
elegant owner and hostess will greet you as if you are family

This is my favorite Chinese place on the upper east side. Nancy
Lee's renovation has improved the decor from kitsch pink pigs
to a more sleek, urban feel. For starters, try the meat dumplings.
For the entree, I recommend the spicy orange chicken or the Grand
Marnier shrimp. Enjoy!
