When I need a break from congestion I drive (and used to bike) to Portola Valley. This takes me past the Ladera Shopping Center and I always stop by the Ridgeside Cafe (which has had other names and owners over time.) They have an outside patio and it is so pleasant to sit outside in glorious California weather in this quiet garden atmosphere. The breakfasts are quite good. Lunches are sandwiches and some hot dishes but always nicely prepared and presented. I've taken our work group out there for lunches...6-8 people...we sit outside and have a beer while waiting for our lunches to arrive. It has been a nice, clean, and pleasant escape for a long time. (Don't know anything about dinners...don't even know if they offer them.)
