On Nicollet Island, just under the Hennepin Avenue Bridge, is
a plain-looking limestone building that dates back to the early
days of Minneapolis. It was built in 1893 as a window factory,
and its loading dock overlooking the Mississippi River is now
the main dining room of the Nicollet Island Inn. The small hotel
-- only 24 rooms -- caters to well-heeled tourists and business
travelers. The hotel restaurant is an oasis of quiet charm with
fireplaces, antique furnishings and white tablecloths. The
menu is based on American classics and accompanied by a distinguished
wine list.

Very romantic, gorgeous atmosphere, almost country home/barnlike...right
in the middle of the big Muddy. The view at night is spectacular
and the Sunday brunch is well worth the trip.
