Mmmmmmm. Yummy pizza. Mmmmmmm yummy beer. Mmmmmmm big beer selection
of random pilsners from Germany. Not a bad way to do the most excellent
pizza and beer combination. Have been going here when in the 'hood
for many years.

The best pizza of its type in the bay area. The best pizza of
any kind within, say, 5 miles.
The pizza here is what I would call medium thickness. It's not
pan, but it's not New York thin either. It has a really good
chewy crust and the toppings are top rate.
I can't speak to the foo-foo gourmet pizzas because I find them
an abomination to pizza in general. The standard pizzas here,
which you can order to your own taste, are great. The Italian
sausage is crumbled on, and is quite tasty.
It's first come first served, so arrive a little early. If it's
crowded you sometimes have to wait like a vulture for a table to
clear. The decor is like a college crowd place, but the actual
clientele is more varied than that. It's a bit loud, but not
obnoxious or anything.
For a good tasty unpretentious meal, I highly recommend this
place.

Second to none in the Bay Area for their style of pizza (style =
generally unconventional and excellent combinations of toppings).
They will also gladly customize and mix pizzas to your specs.
Also try the Applewood 2 Go across the street for those "eat in"
nights.

Great pizza for the Bay Area (although that really doesn't say
a lot). There are exotic pizzas but they have the old standbys
as well. The toppings are generous and I like the quality of the
crust and the sauce. Excellent beer selection, too. Get the
langosh as an appetizer.

Some of the best pizza I've ever had, great selection of veggie
toppings, really extensive selection of beers.

Eh, why does everybody love this place? I have lived in the
area for 7 years now, and every now and then I get myself to
try this pizza, and I am always unimpressed. If you want a
pizza with a bunch of toppings you can't find any where else
then this is the place. Otherwise, the pizza is really
pretty average. As a remark to D. Appelt's review of the
Hungarian food, I must disagree. My father is from Budapest
and I have had the "real thing" and I was not really wowed
by Applewood. In fact, the sausage they use on their
Hungarian pizza is not really Hungarian. The goulash is not
bad, but it is not really very authentic. All in all, not a
bad place to eat, but there is much better, less "creative"
pizza on the peninsula.

Currently eating a vegetarian version (artichokes, peppers,
mushrooms). It's not bad, but I wouldn't say it's a great pizza by any
measure. For those of you who think it's the best in the Bay, well, I
wouldn't know, but it can't hold a candle to Figs' in Boston. I guess
I must be spoiled. Anyone who knows a better place, please email me as
I'm new to the area and do love great pizza....

Tasty, albeit somewhat "heavy" pizzas with an absolutely outstanding
(and inexpensive) German beer selection! Try the Hungarian pizza with
some Dunkel Hefe-weizen.

The best pizza in the Bay Area. Good selection of beers (could be
better, though).

Not a fan of pizza at all, but will eat Applewood Pizza!!
Try one of their specialty pizzas or create your own. I
particularly like the BBQ Chicken and cilantro pizza.
