the food and wine is excellent. It certainly does get a little
noisy in there though. If you don't have a reservation you
could always try walking in, on the off chance that they have a
space at the bar

We've gone here twice. That was one too many. The food quality
is fine, but not for the price.
We went here for our wedding anniversary recently and, even
though I mentioned it when making reservations, and again when
we
were seated, the service was terrible. Actually, we had the same
feeling the previous time.
I don't understand all the good reviews???
Try Emile's Swiss Affair in San Jose for the same price, but with
much better food and service.

My husband and I were not impressed with Cafe Marcella. It did
not seem to be worth the price of the meal. My husband had the abalone
(decent), and the mahi mahi (which was served cold; we had to ask
them to reheat). I had the duck liver pate (mediocre at best and
going brown), the spinach salad (decent) and spaghetti with
meat sauce (decent). They brought our main course before we were
served our salads, so we suspect they were just placed under a
heating lamp until we were ready for them.
The service was attentive, but our waiter was not entirely honest
about the champagne we ordered; he pointed out a less expensive
bottle on the menu, and ended up bringing us (and charging us for)
a more expensive bottle. He also tried to charge us a couple of
bucks more for the mahi mahi entree.
Certainly, it was not the worst restaurant we've been to, but
for $150 for two, we'd definitely go somewhere else next time.

This is the best restaurant in Los Gatos, no doubt. For such a "chic"
little town, LG sure has a lot of mediocre restaurants. Cafe Marcella
is not one of them. They have it all - atmosphere, really wonderful
food and service, and a terrific wine list, if you're into that sort
of thing. (Well, they could use more convenient parking, but that's a
problem all over town.) I have a theory that the further you get from
SF, the worse the restaurants seem to get, overall. Thankfully, Cafe
Marcella is a noteable exception. The market they have next door has
wonderful things for sale as well. Definitely worth checking out.

After reading al these great reviews, we were greatly
disenchanted with Cafe Marcella. (Marcella's GONE)
I believe it was once a fantastic restaurant, however.....
The duck was rubber and fatty, the salad overdressed, the
antipasto (who eats cornichons by the ton?) left MUCH to be
desired, and the after dinner cheeseplate was unacceptable (was
served with chive bread on a bed of salad greens) you call THAT
dessert? They only had 2 options for dessert.
Service was good, but lacking in personality. Kind of like a
responsive robot.
Sorry, not worth it. I understand the previous owners are just
that. "Previous". Too bad. I hope the new one(s) get it together.
When is the LG/SARA area going to get a real fine dining place??

Cafe Marcella consistently provides a lively atmosphere with
outstanding food, wine and service. Vince is usually willing to open
up the upscale Italian Market next door to allow patrons to purchase
wine, Truffle Oil or other imported delicacies even when the market is
closed. It is this attitude and sense of warmth that draws this
reviewer back to Marcella week after week. Despite the outstanding
preparation Marcella is always willing to substitute lower
fat/cholesterol ingredients in their dishes without sacrificing any
flavor. The restaurant is seriously loud on Friday & Saturday nites,
but if are aware of this going in then you will not be
disappointed. Café Marcella remains our favorite retreat in the Los
Gatos/Saritoga area.

The food here is outstanding, as will you be, if you don't
have a reservation (out standing in the street, that is). We eat
there regularly and have yet to enjoy anything but a superb
meal. With the high ambient sound level, you're also less likely
to have the details of your new Silicon Valley startup overheard.

Cafe Marcella is our favorite Los Gatos restaurant. Although noisy,
the overall atmosphere is welcoming. We continue to be amazed at
the consistancy of the service and the food. The fish special is
always superb. The waiters are extremely helpful when it comes to
choosing wine and have never steered us to "pricey" selections -
only fabulous ones! This hidden treasure should be discovered by
all who consider dining out an event. (Reservations a must)
