The food, however, is good, both the chinese buffet and especially
the mongolian BBQ. For the money, choose this over the place across
the street (katty-corner) ;)*wink* but if there are people smoking
here and you still would like to ENJOY chinese food, might as well
pack up and go north on 35th (across Northern) and take a right
into the Safeway parking lot. No smoking in there.

I used to live within walking distance, so Lai Lai became my regular
hangout. The Mongolian BBQ is not quite as extensive as some I've
seen (for example, YC's... which got me hooked on Mongolian
BBQ in the first place) but the food is very good, and the Chinese
buffet is included. The shrimp, as mentioned before, is extra
but to my recollection it wasn't much extra for the shrimp...
and they were nice and big and worth the price. The restaurant's
ambiance isn't the classiest, but the times I've been
there it was clean and the service ranged from adequate to very
attentive. I've been missing their Mongolian BBQ... while
I've been to many others, this is one of the best I've
been to. I will be visiting Phoenix in two weeks and I will definitely
make a point to have lunch there!

Score would be higher except that they don't have adequate
separation of smoking and non-smoking sections, and my children
are asthmatic so we have had to leave before when people were smoking.

For healthy food vs. dollar value this is great. I've been eating
here about twice a month for about four years. The typical Mong.
BBQ setup (shrimp is extra), plus the price now includes an added
tasty Chinese buffet (not quite so healthy). There's also a separate
menu which I've never tried. Owner and staff helpful and friendly.
Small smoking section in the back booths. Can get a bit crowded
and kid noisy around Sunday Brunch time.

Wonderful food. I've never had mongolian food quite as good as
this is. Plus you get an all-you-can-eat Chinese food buffet
which is really good. I try to make it there once a week when I can.
The food is fabulous.
