I heard lots of good things about this place, so I had to try it out. I had
the lobster, and I gotta say it was some of the best I've ever had.
I'll definately be going back.

The original entrance on Central
Avenue still works, but most patrons enter from the parking lot
through the kitchen where chefs and waiters are accustomed to
greeting guests as they head for the dining room. Once inside,
steak is star attraction, with a variety of cuts cooked to order
and served complete with soup and vegetables. Fresh seafood
is flown in daily, with live-tanked Maine Lobster available
all year.

Great seafood and steaks. First visit started with a certain
discomfort at the bar due to patron's smoking, however it
was quickly diminished when seated. Extraordinary waitstaff
and service kicked in immediately. Anyone dining should consider
themselves lucky to have Melody as their waitress. She complimented
the fine dining with a personal touch that our party of three haven't
experienced elsewhere.

For many in the Valley, Durant's is a shrine to the way dining
used to be: great service, simple food, and honest quality. Open
in this location since the early 1950s, Durant's has built
a zealous following for their steaks and seafood. With curvy
red leather booths, wait staff in tuxedos, velvety ruby-red
wallpaper and cigars on the menu; you almost expect to find Dean
Martin waiting in the lounge.
Fresh seafood
is flown in daily, with live-tanked Maine Lobster available
all year. On weekend nights, those without reservations can
find themselves spending an hour or so in the lounge while waiting
for a table -- which might not be so bad ...

A fine dining place at its finest. This place is well worth the
money you spend there. The prime rib is tops and the desert tray
is worth the look. Service was fantastic and attentive.

I have been eating here with my family for over 25 years! It is the
very first restaurant that I had the pleasure of eating at when
we first moved to Phoenix. It went through some changes/"growing
pains" a few years back, but the food and service is still outstanding.
You can't go wrong with any steak on the menu, the shrimp cocktails
are outstanding. Prime rib is also very good as are the lamb chops
and veal chop. Creme brulee is outstanding as is the giant strawberry
shortcake! After 25 years plus of fine dining in Phoenix, it is
still my personal favorite. I strongly suggest reservations,
especially during our "prime" winter tourist season!

Durant's is my favorite restaurant in Phoenix. I have been going
there with my family for over 25 years and it has been in the same
location for over 50 years. Great steaks, prime rib and live Maine
lobsters. Their shrimp cocktail is outstanding as well as oysters
on the half shell. If you save room for desert be sure to try the
strawberry shortcake or creme brulee!

I don't know what menu these previous reviewers were looking
at,
but I just ate at Durant's last night, and had a hard time finding
anything on the menu UNDER $20.00 other than ala carte stuff.
The
stuffed potato is the best I've ever eaten. They do great things
with seafood, and their steaks are supurb, which is why they can
get away with their prices in Phoenix -- they're old, established,
and excellent. The flocked red "bordello" wall paper only adds
to the ambiance of the place. My biggest complaint is that the
place tends to be REAL noisy, and people start trying to out-shout
each other from table to table. Another thing that happens quite
frequently at Durant's is celebrity citings. I've not only seen
several of the local sports "figures" there, but also have seen
Bob Saget, Rob Schneider, Bruce Willis, and Kirsten Alley in
the
place. Service is impeccible with waiters in tuxes -- as waiters
of this genre of eatery should be. ...
