This is a restaurant you want to go to for entertainment as well as good food and I recommend it for a date, for a family with kids, or even a work group on lunch break.
The atmosphere works best with an interactive 'audience', so the chefs can play off of your energy and give you some back. If you sit there quietly, their performance will have less energy, so clap away!
Food is very good and there is a reasonable selection. Access to the restaurant is easy off of 280 and Wolfe as long as you don't hit rush 'hour'.

Atmosphere: Above average to excellent Crowd: Varies Dress: Casual Food: Above average to excellent Noise: Average to a little loud Service: Average to above average
Comments: I went here for lunch today with a friend (with reservations). The restaurant is styled to be like in Tokyo (not too elaborate) and the chefs wear the typical outfits. Though our SERVICE (drink refills and such) was sketchy, our chef was excellent. I ordered (pricey) the second most expensive thing on the menu...Seafood Combination ($32.25), which was comprised of lobster, scallops, and shrimp (and all the normal side dishes like rice and such). Generally, the food was quite good, though the lobster and scallops were just good (not excellent). I recommend Benihana for reasonable food (a bit expensive though) and a decent show.

I think this is one of the more overrated restaurants in the area. Everyone raves about it, but when you take away the gimmick of the cooking show, it doesn't hold up well.
First of all, the quality of both the show and the food you get varies wildly depending on what chef happens to walk to your table. Some are genuinely fun and make you forget about the bland taste. Others are machines that do their job, no more. If you get the latter, don't count on getting your money's worth.
Okay, I've just mentioned money. Let's talk about that. This is about the most expensive Asian food you'll find anywhere in the area. Short of Kobe beef I've never seen such pricey Chinese/Japanese food (they really serve both). It's really tough to walk out of there without dropping at least $50. The show is cute, once, but really isn't worth that kind of money.
Now let's talk about the food. When it isn't bland it's extremely salty and greasy. They cook absolutely everything in big pools of butter. Normally I like to stuff mass quantities of fried rice into myself, but here it's so salty and greasy that I lose interest after half a bowl. They provide sauces for dipping the meats in, which is good because the meats aren't much on their own, but they only sort of help.
Basically if you want to take a bunch of friends who don't care about food, but would enjoy a good floor show, this place is fine. If you're really looking for good Chinese/Japanese food, there are plenty of better alternatives in Cupertino alone.

Benihana's is place to go just to say that you have been there. The food is good, if a bit on the pricy side, though most people go for the show as the skilled chef's cook at the table. The atmosphere is traditional Japanese and the service is very good. You will definately need reservations, especially on the weekends, and even then you may have a bit of a wait. They cram two or three parties at one table, especially if you are only a party of two or three, so don't expect an dining experiance of personal conversation. However you will be focused on the show anyway. Whatever you order will be good, I recommend the chicken and shrimp entrees.

Yes, one of the reasons to go there is for the show. It's a great place to take friends and family who have never been there before.

But, I must say, I love food, and I would not go to a place just for the show. The food is great. Not wanting to skimp at a restaurant, I ususually get the filet mignon and lobster, and I've never been disappointed. Everything has always turned out great. The shrimp is great, the fried rice is great, the atmosphere is great, the soup is great, and the filet and lobster are terrific. I've been there 4 or 5 times, and have never been disappointed. And I'm quite the picky critic. It's a fun place with wonderful tasting food, and you will never forget it.

As with most Benihana's, you are paying for the show. We went here for lunch. I would almost warn against the bento boxes, which are pre-made (resulting in some items being cold, like the tempura). The food that is prepared in front of you is a good value, but the better deal in terms of taste seems to be the yaki-soba, which is also prepared in front of you.

I hate this place. Everything tastes the same. They put on a big show, put the food on the plate, but all it is is just cooked food with three of the same sauces, so everything tastes the same. If you want entertainment, go here, if you want real food, go somewhere else.

I love this place. Great atmosphere and unlike a previous comment states it is a wonderful family gathering eatery.
