I am not sure if this place is still in business or not. i have fond memories of muddys. it had torches burning on the walls, with beaded curtains leading from room to room. i remember it being open late at night till 6 or 8am. the place was awesome with arched doorways. i do remember the library upstairs. i also remember the delicious french onion soup. a great place to hang out for a few hours. less

I give this little slice of life a 5 star rating, though many may not have the same opinion. I frequented Muddys about about 8 years ago, and I have wonderful memories of all the good times and friends that I met there. Muddys isnt just a run of the mill place to eat. As you enter Muddys, you may be taken back a bit by its dim lit decor, and by the younger to middle aged 'alternative' people you may find on any given night, but stick around a bit, because there is more to this gem then meets the eye. While you sit back and enjoy their famous 'bottomless mug' of coffee or their absolutly fabulous Earl Grey shake, you might enjoy the conversation of many of the highly intelligent voices of tommorrow in between the songs of some local folk musicians, that are there from time to time (schedule unknown). If that isnt your cup of tea, or coffee whichever the case may be, then you may walk up the stairs, which overlooks the social area, and feel free to borrow a book from their library and read while you enjoy your favorite libation (sorry, no alcohol). On the other hand why not meet a new friend, and match wits with them in a game of chess, there are plenty of chess games there to go around. My review may be outdated, but if Muddys hasnt changed since then, I would highly recomend it. Not a day goes by without fond memories of Muddys Java Cafe :) less
