I took my family here over the Thanksgiving break. This restaurant
was simply wonderful. I ordered the osso bucco - the yummiest
of all veal dishes. It was beautifully presented and prepared.
My brothers had the steak dish and it was also very nice to look
at! After admiring our food, we finally tasted our entrees and
thought we were in heaven. The food was fantastic! And to top if
off, we had the chocolate cake with carmelized bananas for dessert.
It was excellent. Anyone staying in Calistoga MUST abolsutely
stop by this restaurant for a fabulous dinner. It's not the best
EVER, but it's pretty close. Quality and quantity. What more
can you ask for?

This is a wonderful restaurant, from a perspective of the atmosphere,
the inventive menu, nice presentation, the professional service,
etc. But the food did just not click with me. I always hate it when
I see a menu full of clearly interesting dishes, but none that
I really like. Usually this means they choose lots of ingredients
that I seem to dislike, and use them in every dish. This was the
case for me. I think this place needs to choose a more diverse assortment
of dishes, styles, and ingredients. This would broaden their
appeal.

We went to Wappo's for lunch. The sweet potato soup I had was just
heavenly! My friend had a mixed greens salad with fried goat cheese.
She loved it so much, she kept talking about it for the rest of our
trip! The service was quick and efficient without being too intrusive.
I'll definitely go again!

Interesting menu, described as global. We had excellent service
(thanks to Cooper) and he was very knowlegable about the dishes.
I thought the side dishes were interesting. I didn't love them,
they would not have been my first choice, but the chilean sea bass
was excellent, and my mother's Tandori chicken (which wasn't
served the traditional way) was a huge portion and well seasoned!
The pie sampler desert is also excellent.

I've had lunch at Wappo twice and intend to return for
dinner. It rates highly on all counts: food, service, and
atmosphere. The menu is inventive and original without
being weird, the food is fresh and well-prepared (I
particularly recommend the Turkish mezze plate), and the
portions are large. (My fiance and I each had a bowl of
gazpacho, the special soup of the day, and split a seared
tuna sandwich, and we had more than enough to eat.) The
service was quick and friendly. We sat outside on the
lovely trellised patio, a perfect mix of sun and shade.
Very relaxing. One of the two times we were there they had
live classical guitar music.
Wappo is also that rarity, an American restaurant that knows
how to serve a proper pot of tea! None of this "bring you a
pot of warm water and a teabag" nonsense. They brew the tea
in beautiful, large Japanese tea pots (one pot is enough for
two people), use loose tea, and bring the tea already
brewing to your table, so I presume that they use b ...

I was very impressed with the menu selection and I have never
had crab chapino that tasted so good. The portions were more
that adaquate and the atmosphere was pleasant. Much better
than Checkers(right across the street) and about the same price!
