My daughter recently planned a surprise party for me at Amalfi in Rockville. She reserved the private dining room for our planned party of 15 (the room holds 35, I think). Unfortunately, we were off on the head count and 28 people showed up (almost double)!! The Amalfi staff and management handled it very well, and seemlessly... before my daughter could even say anything to the staff, they had noticed the increased attendance and printed up the additional copies of the customized menu for our group, brought out additional appetizers, and had us seated in no time - all on a already busy night. Kudos and many thanks to them for pulling off what could have been a chaotic night - and all with a smile! By the way, you MUST try their tortellini in mushroom cream sauce and their white pizza with cheese - I had read the rave reviews about these specific dishes and wanted to taste them for myself - both dishes ARE DELICIOUS!

Amalfi's has the BEST white pizza you will ever eat. It's so good, that we normally take one home with us for lunch the next day - not kidding! If you come hungry, I recommend getting the tortellini in mushroom cream sauce as an appetizer (it on the menu as a main dish, but they don't seem to mind). Then, once you are done with the tortelli, dip their bread into the sauce - it is just devine. Other dishes that are family favorites include their chicken parmesian, veal marsala and stuffed artichoke (when they have it). Save room for dessert - their homemade chocolate mousse is excellent.

This is a true hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant. Way back when (in the early 80's), I think they only had about 8 or 10 tables. They've since expanded (to maybe 20 tables max). The food is just as good as some of the places in Little Italy (in Baltimore). The only meal I don't find up to snuff is their veal parmisian (it's not bad, but not the best). The eggplant is excellent. And don't forget dessert!
