I've been going to King Yen for years now and I have yet to be let down by this wonderful place. Not only is the service always friendly, and its dishes to die for, but it's ambience is absolutely perfect. The feel of the restaurant is extremely warm yet still sophisticated and they never fail to have beautiful floral arrangements surrounding the tables. As an avid Chinese food diner, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for fabulous authentic Chinese dishes. It's one of the best places that Berkeley has to offer!

This is good Chinese food, but I think it caters towards an Americanized palate. The neighborhood is great and the people are friendly. Don't go there expecting the real thing.

King Yen is consistently the best Chinese food around. The menu includes Cantonese, Szechwan, Hunan & Mandarin specialties; all delicious. My husband and I have eaten there at least once a week for 15 years and we never get tired of the food. Great place for take out too. The Szechwan beef is excellent. Good vegetarian dishes too. The lunch specials Monday through Saturday are a great deal! $4.50 to $6.00 includes soup, salad, entree and rice. During the evening you order a la carte with dishes from $4.50 to $7.00. The atmosphere is nice but not overly fancy. They have fresh flowers everywhere. The dining room opens onto College Avenue with a few tables outdoors. After lunch or dinner you can stroll along the shops or take in a move at the Elmwood Theater accross the street. The service is very friendly and they will do anything you ask within reason. Corkage fee is only $5. Good place to take two people or ten.
