Although lots of people come here for breakfast, I really like
their meat loaf. Other reviewers are right, the wait is pretty
long which is why I never go on the weekends.

Long wait, expensive for what you get (quality/quantity), impossible
to park. If you could eat hype, maybe, otherwise, go only if you
simply MUST be seen there...

You had better be very PC, as eating here can be a challenge if you
are not. Bette's is a nice enough place, but not up to all of the
hype. Good breakfasts, unreasonable waiting. If you feel up
to the stress, have a good time...

the pancakes are awesome; but the wait is terrible, get there
early.
by the way, there's no "ocean view"...

I've eaten here many times but the last time I ordered a smoked
salmon fritatta dish (don't remember the exact name) but it was
disappointing as there were only a few small bits of smoked
salmon floating around with my eggs. At nearly ten bucks, this
is not a good deal as it wasn't particularly good. I've had
better luck with the other dishes. Bette's also runs a takeout
cafe next door with baked goods, sandwiches, salads, soups.
Skip
the regular menu sandwiches and get one of daily specials. They
are usually outstanding. Their pizza-by-the-slice is also
a
sure bet.

Great breakfasts/food, long wait, but that's part of the Bay
Area food scene. Bette's to-go has this incredible almond tea
cake. The flavor and texture of these can't be beat especially
with a cup of their wonderfully strong coffee. You can't get these
anywhere else, I've looked. Living without these in SoCal feels
like something in life is missing. Please don't ever stop making
these, I'd just freak if they weren't there when I visit the Bay
Area.

Sunday brunch is great except for the wait. (can be hour plus)
But get a cup of coffee and read the paper while you watch the people
go by. Try the specials and really ia great during the week without
the wait.

I can never figure out a best time to go because there's always a long
line, any day, any time. Best corned beef hash; great frittata and
other hearty American breakfast.

This was the very first resaurant I went to when I moved
to the Bay Area six years ago and it was a wonderful
introduction to the food scene here. Good food, interesting
combinations, the Playboy controversy. The wait is kind of
a pain, but on a warm Sunday morning it's kind of fun to
chill on the benches outside and watch people go by. The
staff is very nice (even to my "high maintenance" friend
Lisa). Now for the food:
-Eat the specials -- they're always superb.
-The potato pancackes can't be beat with a stick.
-The lox scramble (comes with a bagel) also rocks.

Of course it's worth the wait! Unfortunately, there are
only 42 seats in the restaurant. May I suggest you try a
weekday. The actual average price of a meal is $8.00,
which is not exprensive these days for real food, with
real people cooking it, in an independent, personally run
restaurant...I would recommend the corned beef hash, which
I personally think is the best in the world. (The staff is
great, too, by the way, and many of them have been there
for a real long time.)
