All of my life I have had the pleasure of dinning out, some of the
most memorable experiences of my life. From romantic five star
dinning atop Las Brisas, Acapulco, to Persian, Middle Eastern
and every ethnic food from Africa, India, and Polynesian. From
Greece to L.A. to N.Y. and then safely returned to Ky. where it
all started with my family deciding to dine at Cafe Istanbul.
Bull......!!!, we have never been disregarded or treated in
such a manor. After being seated, the hostess dissapeared in
the back while my wife and stood up and took turns holding our 13
onth old son while servers and staff members walked by. The hostess
then returned moments later and still had no clue why we still
standing. So again, I asked her for a highchair. Then we are looking
around at the menu and decore and a small amount of people. And
after going on five minutes in here with no service, I decided
to start feeding my son.....and by the way, typically we all eat
together...., while my wife looks over the menu. Our waiter comes
over to greet us and asks us if we would like a drink? We replied,
please icewater for now thanks. I then told him how familiar I
was with the menu from the internet and we knew what we wanted for
an appetizer but it was not on his menu. His response was several
times ' I dont know', as if now there is a language barrier
and he opens my menu and trys to belittle me by telling me that I
can order anything off the menu as he stands over the top of my son
and I while Im trying to feed him and reads the menu to me for another
couple of minutes. NOW, as my wiife, who is pregnent and in need,
looks on and I ask to see the manager about the menu Our server walks
away as bussers are refilling tables with ice cold water....
but we dont have any!!! He slowly returns to fill our glass with
no manager and walks by us several times ignoring us and tending
to a few customers. I then asked another server and then another
staff member for the manager. I only wanted to know if we could
order an appetizer that our waiter didnt know about. The manager
comes over and apologizes and tells us maybe a long time ago but
he does not have a definitive answer. Now we have asked for the
waiter several times as he too dissapeared in the back. Finally
he comes out, we have been here going on fifteen minutes, walks
right by us and goes behind us two tables back and starts arranging
tablesettings which have already been placed!!!! Now my wife,
also annoyed and my son is finished eating, then turns and calls
to the server clearly three times. With his back turned and once
again ignoring us while others seated at the tables are all looking
around to see what is wrong, comes over and we ask him .....WHY????....
are you and your staff treating us this way? He was in total denial
of the situation from beginning to end. We never got to eat, walked
out and went across to Brios Tuscan eatery where we had great food
and excellent service. We cant say one good thing about Cafe Istanbul
and the only possible explanation i have is that they did not like
the fact my wife is Persion and Im American and we have a beautiful
son together who ''THANK GOD'' smiled the
whole time while the staff treated us disrespectfully and maybe
discriminated against us. Perhaps this wont make the review
on the internet but hopefully the owner of Cafe Istanbul sees
or hears of this problem and can resolve the situation.

Some of the best Turkish/Middle Eastern food you'll ever
eat is found at Cafe Istanbul.
I don't know what the exact differences are between the cuisines,
but Turkish, Greek, and Middle Eastern cuisines share some similarities
and similar dishes.
Take the Cafe Istanbul appetizer menu for example. You'll
find falafel and hummus, which are traditionally thought of
as Middle Eastern dishes, and dolmasi, stuffed grape leaves
usually found in Greek cuisine.
That notwithstanding, Cafe Istanbul offers outstanding food
no matter where it comes from. My favorite meal is a combination
of the Shish Kabob and Doner Kabob. The Shish Kabob features cubes
of lamb grilled on a skewer. The Doner Kabob is the equivalent
to the gyro, except you've never had a gyro this good. This
combination of lamb and beef is not the processed stuff you'd
find at any restaurant. The kitchen here must make their own,
because the flavor and texture are so much better and so unlike
the average gyro.
You get a lot of food for the money, and they also feature many nice
seafood dishes, including a salt crusted fish flambe that must
be ordered one day ahead of time.
Definitely give Cafe Istanbul a try. You won't regret it.
