Another overblown Newport On The Levee concoction, The Claddagh is the kind of place you go if you're starving for the atmosphere of an old Irish pub, but have no idea what one is really like and no intention of traveling anywhere to find out. Based on my meal, I'd suggest heading to the Party Source for a six pack of whatever Irish beer floats your boat, then heading to Long John Silvers for a bad fish dinner. You'll save yourself a ton of money in the end and not have to pay for parking.

Claddagh Irish Pub is part of the new trend towards churning out faux-authentic Irish pubs in the US. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you, but every one seems the same, but different.
The good thing about the pub craze is that it ensures beer lovers of finding good beer to drink. They usually fail at the kitchen end of the house, but Claddagh is solid and delivers adequately, if not spectacularly.
You can't go wrong with the ubiquitous Fish and Chips. The chips are as they should be, long, fresh cut potato wedges deep fried to golden perfection. The fish is cod dipped in a Bass Ale batter and is not very greasy. Unless you're extremely hungry, you're better off sticking with the half portion, which still offers plenty of food.
They also do a good job with Shepherd's Pie, Corned Beef and Cabbage, and the Irish Beef and Guinness Stew.
The one thing that annoys me with these places is that they try to cook everything using the beers as the ingredients. Just cook the damn food, and we'll drink the beers.
Hoist a cold pint (this is the US, we don't drink our beer warm over here) and salute Claddagh for doing things right.
