Brio Tuscan Grille

My advice: DONT GO THERE! One evening in Spring 2005, I had a business dinner with my co-workers at Brio at Stony Point Shopping Center in Richmond, VA. I had a tiramisu for my dessert. In it, there was a piece of plastic. I quickly let our waiter know. He didnt care less and just cleared my plate, saying "Ok". Frustrated, I asked him to bring the manager so that I can talk to him instead, then he agreed and disappeared for good 40 min. Since it was a business dinner, I did not have time to stay forever. So I went to the back area in the restaurant where all waiters and waitresses hang out and told the situation so I could talk to the manager right away. Then one of the waitresses there went into the kitchen right behind and came out with him. They were not surprised to hear my story. Apparently, similar things happen at this restaurant on such a regular basis that they don't care less. They have the worst customer service I have encountered in my life. I have never returned to the restaurant since and never will. And neither should you. less

A friend suggested Lunch at Brio Tuscan Grille, Stoney Point Parkway. We both ordered the "salad" lunch special, Shrimp/crabcake/lobster mixed greens salad. A glass of wine each and I had the bisc soup. The meal was tasty but the price was "NASTY". I am not usually shocked at fine dinning food prices, but this was Lunch for two and it cost $71.32 plus tip. When I got the bill I thought it was a mistake. Our surver never quoted us a price on the "lunch Special" I assumeing it would be reasonable, but It was NOT. The two glasses of white wine were well short of full, at a cost of $18.00 or $9.00 each. You can find this at the "Public House" a fine dinning Restaurant in New Market, Va. What is wrong with this picture. Lets talk about portions. One crab cake the size of a silver dollar, a few pieces of lobster meat and 4-5 med. size shrimp. over a bed of mixed greens with blue cheese, tomato pieces, pine nuts and a light oil and vinigar dressing. I can get better value and portion at "Outback" but just ordering the appetizers ( 2 crabcakes-regular size/ 6-coconut shrimp) for less than $18.00 dollars = to the cost of the 2 glasses of wine/ or the equivalent of paying the Direct TV bill(4hook-ups) for 30days ($71.00). One of the things I noticed when I looked around was the patrons of the restaurant...the majority were "Women". I have nothing against women....So men, wake-up, and check you credit cards when your womenfolk tell you they went to lunch with the girls and they only had a "Salad" and it was the "Lunch Special". less

We enjoyed our bread and salad, and the onion straw appetizer we ordered was delicious. My husband ordered penne pasta with marinara sauce, which was not on the menu, and they were more than glad to accomodate him. I had a penne pasta dish which I can't remember the name of, but it had pine nuts, sun-dried tomatoes, carmelized onions, feta cheese in a garlic olive oil sauce, and it was just outstanding. All in all, we would definitely go there again, though I can certainly understand "Dave's" two star review - I would have been upset with that evening too! In the end, we had to give the meal 5 stars for service, the great food and the pleasant atmosphere. (And the bathrooms were spotless, as well.) This was disappointing, not only for obvious reasons; but also because we'd made our reservation for 5 a few weeks in advance, as we had an event to attend at 8:00. <br> At the bar (while I waited), I found an inexperienced bartender, who had a difficult time describing a wine. She left my glass well short of full, or even reasonable, yet it was a $9.00 glass of wine. I thought, "poor guy must be in over his head" - fortunately, I worked in restaurants for 10 years while finishing school, and rarely is someone more prepared to order and guide a meal in an efficient manner, even when the waitron is swamped. <br> On our fourth try at maintaining his attention long enough to order dinner, @ around 6:20, we succeeded in ordering dinner. We were almost done with our appetizers... By 7:10 we were served our dinners. I ordered the 14 oz. Gorgonzola Strip, which sounded amazing. I asked for Medium, but what I received was a well done tough steak. It was in fact covered in Gorgonzola, however that was burnt to a crisp. It in no way resembled cheese. <br> Furthermore, we were offered no mention of the fact that the plates weren't served with any vegetables! Can you believe that? No veggies, and the waiter didn't ask any of us if we'd like a side of asparugus to share of anything. I was alarmed, but was still hopeful. I can't say for sure, but having the restaurant experience I have, I can say in good faith that I believe their Mashed Potatoes to be made from instant flakes. It was the worst $23 plate of food I'd ever eaten. Luckily, I had glass of wine to wash it down with. (at about a dollar a sip) <br> Under normal circumstances, I'd have sent my steak back, but we were going to be late, so I just didn't mention it... I know restaurants can have a bad night, but jeez. I had problems with the hostess/reservation, at the bar, at the table, and in the kitchen within a two hour time frame (which should have taken an hour and 1/2) After that wonderful experience, I paid the $180 tab, and tipped $40. (I just can't tip poorly after my last career) I was treated like doo-doo, and I was out $220. <br> I'll never go back to this place. less
