I really liked the food at this place. The Ox tails were fantastic,
as was the meatloaf. This is not your average meatloaf! The chicken
fried steak was probably the best of the dishes we tried. The greens
were perfect as were the yams and beans and rice. The pork chops
were overdone, but everything else was wonderful. This is great
soul food.

The service we had was not very good. I ordered a drink before my
meal came, but the drink did not appear until after my plate was
clean. Next she brought the check without offering us dessert.
Then she lost my credit card. The service of the other servers
seemed much better than what we received.

The service made me feel right at home. While I have had better
soul food while in the south, I have not had better in California.
If you like soul food this place is a must!!

It's been awhile since i've ate some decent soul food,
esspecially here in Sacramento, Unless it's family i really
don't induldge in everyone's soul food cooking. But
the Plantation was awsome, the taste and the seasoning was just
right and therefore you could actually taste the flavor of your
soul food without all the salts of different food seasons, I
had collared greens which had just a pinch of vinager in them,
if
you know greens you should also know that you can over do it with
the vinegar. I also had smothered chops and again i must say the
gravy was excellent in texture and flavor, cornbread muffins
were sweet in flavor also and the trimming around the plate of
the meal was mini veggies and a slice of watermelon which i found
very sweet and in season upon both of my visits to the Plantations...I
gotta tell you people if you were ever curious about the Plantations
Chef and Restur ...

I have never been to a "Soul Food" restaurant so I thought
I would give it a try.
The folks that run the restaurant are extremely friendly and
make you feel like you are family and friends. The pictures on
the wall of boxing personalities are very intersting. It is very
clean and neat and the food come to you hot. The night I was there
they had meatloaf. I hemed and hawed about going for that, but
what the heck.
It was outstanding. In a range of 1-10 I would give it a 15. The flavor
was mouthwatering. I could not stop eating it. It had a woodsy/smokey
flavor that I had never tasted before, and the flavor of a good
grade of beef. No cardboard used in this place. The vegies were
done to prefection and the desert was yummy for lack of a better
description. Sweet Potato pie. There was so much food that I had
to get a to go box for part of my dinner and the pie.
I would strongly recommend this place for dinner or lunch. Try
the meatloaf and y ...
