As noted by others, the interior decor is lovely - lots of original
Chinese-themed artwork spaced among the cherry wood accents.
Soaring ceiling in the main dining room. You do have to get past
the idea of paying $12+ per dish for Chinese food, though.
Fat's is the latest addition to the late, legendary Frank Fat's
restaurant legacy. I found that this restaurant is like alot
of high-end fusion restaurants - all the best dishes are the appetizers.
The duck spring rolls were delicious, not too oily and served
hot, as they should be. The pot stickers were light, not too dense,
and flavorful. The Chinese chicken salad was generous and well
seasoned.
The entrees were disappointing. The honey roasted peking duck
was dry. The teriyaki beef clay pot was tender and sat on a nice
bed of rice with snow peas, but was too salty. The orange duck was
dreadful - over-fried and I could taste the cornstarch (which,
admittedly, is a staple in Chinese cooking but you shouldn't
be able to taste it.). My dining companions, though, seemed to
think the orange chicken was fine. We did agree that the chefs
have a heavy hand with salt.
Its worth checking out --- the place was packed on Saturday night
so evidently most of the clientele are satisfied. And they now
offer "limited" reservations, which could have saved us a one
hour 15 minute wait.
