I had the Matoo - meat dumplings with a rich sauce topping. Really excellent.
My friend had the vegatarian version. Also, the Borani (pumpkin appetizer)
which was rich and delicious. This is much better and less expensive
than other Afghani restaurants in the South Bay I have been to.
Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but interesting Afghani
wall hangings and rugs inside.
Service was fine - a bit perfunctory but acceptable. The waiter did
patiently answer all our questions. We had lunch and the restaurant
was only half full so waiters were not overwhelmed, which may be the
case on weekend evenings.

Whenever i know i am traveling to the bay area, my mouth starts watering
at the thought of dining at salang pass. afghan food is soooooo good
and salang pass is the best. try the flat spicy meat patty. (it will make
you want to buy afghan cookbooks to try and replicate the recipe!!!)
just do it.

I knew Fremont was a place where Afghan people had settled, and stopped
there thinking I might find some good food. Happened on Salang Pass,
and had a great meal. I had the lamb kabob (chopan). It was outstanding
as was the rice that accompanied it. I can't wait to get back.

One of the best Afghani restaurants I have dined at. The food was
flavorful and served to perfection. I especially enjoyed the
wonderful vegetarian dishes (you have to try to pumpkin dish)
as well as the kabobs. Well done Salang!

The food was excellent and the ambience was traditionally afghan.
The prices were what took me by surprise for how reasonableit
was. We ate heartily, a meal for two, and the bill was $25. Amazing
place!
