Barone's is still pretty good, decades later, and it is still reasonable. This location is on Avenue "I" (as in "India") in Lancaster, approximately 10 blocks due East of California Highway 14 (the freeway) - just about half a block west of 10th and Avenue I. Barone's is on the north side of the street. Parking on the street or behind the restaurant. This section of Lancaster is declining and not terrific, so caution is advised. The food, however, is still very good. Pizzas come in 10-inch Small, 12-inch Medium, 14-inch Large and 16-inch Extra Large Sizes. Pepperoni, Canadian Style bacon, Sausage, Ground Beef, Salame, Mushrooms, Olives, Green Peppers, Onions, Anchovies and all the typical toppings are here. Vegetarian pizzas with sliced tomatoes available.
Pasta dishes are good, have decent portions, and are priced from $8.25 to $10.55. Gnocchi is available - generally a sign of a very good Italian restaurant. Gnocchi takes a long time to make, and most Italian restaurants therefore don't serve this dish very often. Gnocchi is reasonably priced and available daily at Barone's.
Spaghetti is available with meat sauce or meatless sauce. Lasagna is a generous portion and comes in at $10.05 with a choice of soup or salad. The Chicken Marsala has a light, slightly sweet, translucent wine and lemon sauce and fresh mushrooms. It comes with a small side of pasta and choice of soup or salad. Soup alternates daily between Pasta e Fagoli and Minestrone.
Big Baron Pizza sandwiches are available for $8.25 to $9.25. Italian Style Steak Sandwiches come in small or large sizes, and run from $5.75 to $7.75. Other Italian submarine sandwiches from cold cuts to meatball sandwiches to sausage sandwiches are available, as is an Eggplant Sandwich with mozzarella & sauce, and a Chicken cacciatore sandwich. These sandwiches come in at $6.00 for a small, $7.25 to $7.75 for a large.
Barone's is open daily from 11 AM. Highly recommended for a quiet lunch, power business lunch or a casual dinner when you are in the area.
