Wow, well now that I am in Oklahoma of all places to be transfered
to, I think 13 coins is the one thing I will miss the most! I remember
sitting there as a child with my father, and dates for the prom,
and other occasions, but the one time I remember the most, is Christmas
Eve 1996. I lost my son a month earlier, and the wait staff seen
me sitting alone, and looking sad. the hostess came to my table
and asked, if there was something wrong, I told her, and she took
her break and sat with me, what a night I had the sanatra, wow, I
can smell it now. If and when I return to Seattle I think 13 coins
will be the first place I go. not only service with a smile, but
a hug too, and great food!

Thirteen Coins has two restaurants: this one in Downtown Seattle
and a second down by SeaTac Airport.
This restaurant is open 24/7 including holidays. Once inside,
it's kind of like being in a casino--unless you look out the windows
it looks pretty much the same at any time of day or night. Probably
a good thing. You get the same excellent quality food at noon or
midnight. Service is about the same either time also. Sometimes
it takes forever, sometimes you get instant service--since
they are almost always full, that doesn't seem to be a factor.
It is a deceptively small restaurant--maybe room for 75 customers.
All the booths are high and wrap-around, giving people in them
a measure of privacy. Same with the captain-style chairs at the
counter. You're shrouded unless you want to lean forward and
be seen. This gives a wonderful sense of intimacy that is rare
in NW restaurants.
They serve a wealth of steak, pasta and seafood as well as breakfast
omlettes. They have daily late night specials.
It is especially entertaining to sit at the counter and watch
the cooks prepare each meal. It's almost like a continuous dance
routine.
The fettucine dishes are superb every time (11 to date). Wife
has tried the Steak Sinatra (Named, after THE Sinatra--for whom
this dish was created 30 years ago.) several times--haven't
heard a complaint yet.
BTW: Service was even good on Christmas Eve at 11:30 PM. (Beat
fixing dinner for 2.)
There IS smoking throughout, HOWEVER: they have an incredible
smoke-eater system. I can sit at the counter, next to a chain smoker
and NOT have to reach for my inhaler! Same is true of the booths. The most annoying constant at the restaurant: No reservations--first
come, first served. Waits can be from 2 minutes to over an hour.
An hour wait at midnight is not unusual. Be prepared.
There is also a full service lounge. You can eat in there also.
We never have. There is adequate parking around--depending
on the time of day. Major credit cards are accepted.
