Place is packed due to the scene, not the food. But the BBQ is quite good.

If you love BBQ and Blues, Memphis Smoke is the place to go in the Metro
Detroit area. Located on the corner of Main and 11 Mile, this restaurant
has outstanding bbq chicken, ribs, jambalaya and pulled pork sandwiches.
Our all-time favorite appetizer is french-fried sweet potatoes that
can be dipped into great tasting sauce.
The décor is nothing spectactular, but service is great; there’s seldom
a wait for a table and you can always head for the rooftop open-air café
(weather permitting). Some great blues artists are found here during
the week – call for info on times and groups.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Royal Oak, and that’s saying
something in this city of great eateries!!

While some cities love their houses of blues, here in Detroit
the rich sounds of the Delta shack up at Memphis Smoke. Repeatedly
voted the best place to hear "real" blues, this corner
haven for music lovers has spent years bringing audiences --
dining or not -- to their feet to join the dance floor. Bands with
names like The Reefermen, Rudderhead Lounge and The Bugs Beddow
Band jam regularly on the raised stage. Multi-colored mosaic
pillars and passing action from the streets outside add to Memphis
Smoke's lively atmosphere. For those hungry for more than
tunes, dive into the famous barbecue plates laden with sides
of sweet chard and red beans and rice.

The pulled pork is fantastic! We've been there for early
dinners, late dinners with live music and for drinks upstairs,
we have never been disappointed in the food or the service.

Live entertainment good, drinks good, food over rated. Suggest
going somewhere else to eat, but stop in to enjoy live band and
drinks.

Great place to listen to live blues, but go early and grab a good
table, otherwise you might wait a long time. The barbeque is good
and the beef ribs were nice to find, but the food is not really the
draw here it is the bar scene and the music. IT can get loud in there,
by the way.

Went here for lunch today was was happy I did ! My meal was excellent,
but apparently not as good as my wife's. She, the ribs afectionado,
pronounced them "perfect". We were so pleased that we are determined
to brave the crowds to come back one night to hear some good blues.
My only beef is a small one; the list of beers on tap though large,
seems mundane compared to all other features of this place.

A little high priced but none the less it is a decent place to take
a significant other and enjoy some music.

An excellent evening in Royal Oak began on a Wed. night with dinner
at the Memphis Smoke. Gentle Blues music in the backgroung surrounded
by the awesome flavors of the Missisippi river delta. From begining
to end the food and service as well as the atmosphere was out of
this world. To top it off, your table becomes your front row tickets
to some of the hottest blues acts in metro Detroit and national
circut. And to top it off, over 500 vintage Harley's lined up on
the street in downtown Royal Oak just adds to the visual stimulation.
Keep in mind, a Wed. night, then just picture what a Fri, Sat night
can hold in store for you. If visiting the area, this is a must on
the stop list.
