We had dinner at Ondine's last weekend and had an excellent dining experience. While the original chef has left, the new management has brought in a new chef with new ideas and is now offering a more reasonably price menu. The setting is still as beautiful, with that same wonderful view of San Francisco Bay. As I have said before, Ondine isn't your typical restaurnat, but it is still a very special one. Oh, by the way, our whole dinner, with wine and a cheese plate for dessert was $140.00 for the two of us...

Ondine was reopended in May of 1999 and has made a real splash on the Marin dining scene. Credit Robert Freeman of the California Cafe for bringing back a grand tradition. While the view is unmatched anywhere in the Bay Area, the executive chef, Seiji Wakabayashi, formerly of Spago and several other Los Angeles restaurants, combines French, Chinese and Japanese culinary elements into his own menu. While the menu is updated on a regular basis, Chef Waka (as he likes to be called), maintains several dishes which have become favorites with returning diners. The lobster (in any fashion) seems to standout, and the wine list matches both the decor and the menu. Ondine is not the kind of place that one just drops into for a quick bite, but making plans to visit such a special place, with such a special view and such wonderful food, well maybe making placs in advance isn't really all that bad.
