We live about 40 minutes away from Slates, but go there every time we
are in the area.
This place is very funky and non-conventional. The space is OLD and
has not been refurbished much. The decor is based on the concept of distraction.
There are so many interesting things to look at, on the walls, at the
tables, on the ceiling, that you don't notice that nothing matches
and the space is OLD.
The menu is eclectic and the food awesome. Every time we go there, we
comment to each other that we wish we could try everything. When we go
for breakfast, we usually share the smoked shrimp and brie with fresh
fruit platter. We have been discussing moving out of state, and discussed

SLATES - a superb dining experience with creative and variable
menu; staff is friendly and knowledgable; quality, fresh ingredients;
barkeep pours a stiff drink while waiting for a table; cozy, warm-fuzzies
kind of atmosphere. From coast-to-coast Slates is among my favorite
restaurants which I recommend with great confidence.

Great unique menu. Very friendly staff, which provides small
town hospitality. The coffee is also very good.

This is definately the best place to go for gourmet food in the
Hallowell/Augusta area. They have a creative menu, wonderful
food and a great atmosphere. Try it and you'll love every minute
of this one of a kind dining experience.
