Las Barcas

Ok lookit! I admit, giving a 5 star rating to a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant is bravery (if not arrogance) beyond the imagination! BUT, it is absolutely, positively TRUE! This place has like 6 booths inside, a few tables outside, and is NEVER, I repeat NEVER without a crowd! The food, even though I said between $5 and $10 as the average price, may be slightly exaggerated as many items are under $5. The soft Chicken taco's are good, the tamale's are good as well. Forget the chicken taco's and the tamale's suggestions, its all GOOD! For what it is worth, it is a family business, and I hear that the sons of the original owner have been running the show for the last several years. They are always there, and therefore do not have a life! They do a HUGE take out business and I know of at least 3 different people (I'm not ONE of THEM) that refuses to eat anybody else's Mexican food! They ALWAYS specify Barcas. They're more inflexible than I am...goooo figure ... more

This is also a favorite luncheon place for Surfers, beach types, and other "on the go" young people, though "old folks" like me ain't exactly being shoved out of line in favor of our younger diners...smile
It's just off the beach. Here is the protocol: you order at one window, and pay, then pick up at another window. The salsa, by the way, is out of this world. Try it, you'll like it! less
