Greasy curries have a lot of flavor once you drain off some of the fat. Very divish place with cheap prices. Naan is some of the better stuff around.

This is a good place to go if you like spicy, cheap, good, crowded places. Whatever you eat, it is worth.kinda like fast food style, you pick up your napkins and fork, water. I like this restaurant.

This place is a dive but offers the best Pakistani, down home cooking I know of in the bay area. I love the currys, saag and kabobs. I know one reviewer found it greasy..however greasy IS traditional pakistani food...the Nan rock too! I took my parents to this place and my mom, a great cook herself and picky about desi food, loved it.

The best food in California. Chicken Tikkah and Gulfaraze is my favorite. Hardly recommended.

Great Pakistani food! Don't go for the service or the atmosphere. Vegetarian is clearly not as good as the chicken or lamb. Meat dishes are the best; especially any lamb done Tandoori or curry style.
Best option is to place an order for pick-up. Wait is often long; a sign of a great place to eat.

I am entering this review only to revise my prior numerical rating. When I entered the first one I did not understand therating system. This place is top-notch for food. The location isnot great and the ambiance is hustle-bustle. But the food ---fine!

Shalimar has the most authentic Indian/Pakistani food (certainly in the tandoori dishes) in the Bay area. Being from Pakistan myself, I can assure you of its authenticity. Their vegetarian dishes are not great, so stick to the tandoori stuff - vegetarian is usually better at Indian restaurants that cater to Indian vegans. But the tandoori at Shalimar cannot be beaten! I'd say: 5 stars to the tandoori, 3.5 to the curry dishes and 3 to the vegetarian stuff.

This place came highly recommended from a Pakistani friend of mine. I went there with an Indian co-worker and I thought it was pretty decent, but not outstanding. It's undeniably dirt cheap but I thought the food was on the greasy side. My co-worker thought it was okay but she was somewhat unimpressed. I had the chicken sag (curry chicken with spinach) and it was good although the many bones in my chicken detracted from it. My friend had the vegetarian chick pea entree and it was pretty greasy. The onion nan was excellent, though. I love Indian food and I'm still searching for a great inexpensive Indian restaurant. Does anyone know of one either in SF or Berkeley?

I agree with some of the other reviews about this restaurant. If you go to an Indian/Pakistani restaurant and find mainly people from the sub-continent the food must be good. The food isREALLY good. The non-vegetarian dishes are excellent. Given the price this restaurant serves food that is a steal.

This is an awesome Fast Food Indian resturant. The food is excellent and extremely cheap. For Appetizers I recommend the Sheek Kabob (Skewered spicy lamb)or Chicken Sultani. The menu is not very extensive but the lamb (Bhuna??) and chicken are generally a cant miss. There are also quite a few vegetarian choices. The Onion Kulcha (Indian stuffed bread) is excellent. Not much choices as far as dessert goes. The food is excellent and the prices are unbeatable. There is not an item on the menu above $5. This is a self service establishment so do not expect and waiters etc. It is a small resturant with no ambiance or decorations. However, If you want excellent Indian food at unbelievable prices this is the place to go. For all the Indians out there there is free hot tea at all times Enjoy this gem.

This has to be the best place to go for authentic Indian/ Pakistani food. The is a small neighbourhood resturant where everything is self service except bussing your table. If you want to go to a place with ambiance and great decorations dont go here. However if you want GREAT food and unbelieveably cheap prices this is the place to go. For starters the Sheek Kabob ( skewered lamb) or Sultani chicken (Roasted chicken) are simply mouth watering. The menu is not very extensive but one cannot go wrong with entree like Bhuna Ghosh (Lamb curry) or any of the chicken items. There are also a couple of good vegetarian dishes. Also be sure to try the Onion Kulcha (onion stuffed indian bread). All entrees under $5!! The place is packed with Indians and Pakistanis and if the locals like it then you know the food is good. Folks Enjoy this gem. good food cheap prices

This is one of those neighborhood places you will probably never see written about in a newspaper or other place. It is small, very inexpensive, and I believe it is totally authentic. The place always has many Pakistani and Indian people in it. The food is excellent! Everything is a la carte and totally self service. You pick up your own tableware and even pour your own water from one of the pitchers in the fridge. You don't have to bus your table though. If you, like I, enjoy very good inexpensive food in a plain atmosphere this is your place. Enjoy!!
